Why is DD interested in USNA ? I If getting invited (or not) for a visit is a deciding factor, is serving as a Naval Officer her true objective ? There are a lot of great schools out there, but there is only one dedicated to developing Naval Officers."Bothersome" is not the right word. She has never seen how incredible it is, and seeing it could be the deciding factor. With most of these kids, USNA has competition.
Yes, visiting USNA for the first time can be a wonderful experience, but let's face it.....access is likely to be limited between now and May 1, and Candidates may have to make the decision without the benefit of a visit. It may seem strange -- but it wasn't all that long ago that Candidates reported to USNA sight unseen, with only a print college catalogue. (I was already committed and attending NAPS before I saw USNA, and I had a lot of Classmates who saw it the first time on I day). Nowadays, there are all sorts of online resources, YOUTUBE videos, Admissions briefings, etc. If someone is dedicated to attending USNA, there is plenty of information.
Right now, focus is on getting CVW for those with offers (no mention of LOA's), and we have been told not to make referrals. The number of available slots is limited (and will decrease as the current ROM continues; frankly I have my doubts whether they will happen at all). Pure speculation on my part, but I would expected that whatever spots are available are being targeted to improve underrepresented areas. (As I have said about NASS -- the kid who grew up in NorVA/MD , attending USNA football games and visiting the Yard, and has wanted to go to USNA since he was 5, is not the target audience).
