This is probably going to be a very easy question to answer for the very informed here, but I can't seem to find it elsewhere on the internet

My HS has civil air patrol. I know that one can get a nomination through JROTC, but is there any way to get a nomination through CAP?

Sadly, I’m pretty sure no (I’m in CAP too) But there is a slot at the Air Force academy prep school for at least one CAP cadet each year

As a CAP Cadet, you can apply for scholarship opportunities, and CAP recommendations for the USAFA Prep school. This is done in December of your senior year for the academic scholarships and the prep school recommendations. There are some requirements that go along with the application. Google it you will find it. There were I believe 16 CAP Cadets given recommendations this year for the Prep school and the Civil Air Patrol has 1 slot per year to fill. However, they have filled more than that in the past in a class.

My DS received one of the recommendations this year and as far as I know, they have not slotted the CAP prep as of yet.

Thank you very much, AFA is really my backup, after CGA & kings point. If I don't get in I'll probably go to SUNY Maritime (excelsior scholarship) or just enlist.

My DS liked SUNY but chose A&M Maritime instead....better fit since he did not get into CGA and got the TWE from USMMA 2 weeks ago.

I barely have good enough eyesight for AFA. I've always been interested in the sea. The Coast Guard does a lot of humanitarian work.

To echo what "waiting4ever" said, there is a slot for CAP cadets at a prep school. One spot, if there is room. From the gocivilairpatrol website...
"Eligibility Requirements for CAP's Endorsement

1. Be a current CAP cadet and have earned the Billy Mitchell Award.

2. Meet all of the requirements for a CAP cadet Academic Scholarship.

Applications receiving a CAP recommendation will be forwarded to USAFA. Academy officials make the final selection(s) and announce them in the Spring, usually in April. Only one (1) cadet receiving the recommendation will be awarded placement at the USAFA Prep School provided there is space available, and they meet Prep School academic standards."
