CFA Mile

must be a marked course so if inside is officially marked

I highly recommend running it outside. Running it inside is hard even for trained runners because the air is soooo dry. You get cotton mouth about the 5th lap (indoor 200meter track) trying to run 3 more laps like that sucks and is very distracting. Also, the turns will slow you down because you are suddenly shifting your momentum in a tiny turn.

If outside means wind, run the parts not in the wind faster than those in the wind. Normally I would say fall behind the person who's stronger at running in the wind but you can't have pacers so that's out. If it's rain you are worried about, running inside is worse than rain. Rain will cool off your muscles so it actually hurts less when running. However, it means you really need to warm up, or else you might pull something/can't go out as fast.

@maschneider93 I just ran my 7:12 mile outside with below freezing temps and rain, even then I think its better than running inside. The only other thing Im going to say is that Im not sure about other schools but I know our indoor track team almost exclusively trains outside unless snow is too much to run and we've been state champs several years in a row.

I did my CFA back in Sept outside. Yes, it was warmer then (about 40 degrees F), but I still run outside in the cold now and you can get the average times if not better. But to answer your question, you are permitted to, just ill-advised.

I think all it says is to do it on a one mile flat running surface so inside would probably be fine. You should check with your admissions counselor though.

I took my CFA today and had to run the mile indoors because the outdoor track was covered with snow and ice. It was 12 laps, and my PE teacher said that when the track team runs inside, they are typically 20 seconds slower on the mile. Rather than reschedule, I did it anyway and actually ended up with a personal best! It must have been the adrenaline.

12? So you have less than 150 meter track....nope that's a nope from this indoor runner

Hmm... Maybe I miscounted the laps. I lost track while I was running. I know the track coach was there to verify the distance, so I just did what they told me and they counted the laps for me.

By nope I mean I probably wouldn't want to run it. I run the mile and the 800 which both add up to 12 laps on indoor track. More laps= more turns, more turns= slower time, slower time= OH NO COACH PLEASE NOT 12 400's noooo. ( Jk though this is a work out we do but for Cross county and it's 12-16)
It's possible you ran 12 laps just it would weird and your team probably couldn't host any meets as I believe the track has to follow certain standards so all indoor track meets can be even across the state.
