CFA retake most likely fail... Next steps?

why not just ask admissions?
I don't want to do it too soon, and I already sent them some other emails that I want to let them get the chance to respond to first. But if I don't hear anything by Friday, I am definitely going to ask.

@Waffles, I think the most valuable thing you can take away from this experience is what you already realized. Plan ahead, train ahead, allow for the unknown (injury, weather, illness). Those are life skills that need to be honed for anything; work, school, party planning (really!). I hope you receive good news, and if not, reapply if you so choose. Either way, don't put off training and then push to train too hard. You will end up with injuries and likely not a score you are happy with.
Our son has never been a runner, his sport didn't require much of it. He had to train for the CFA. The track was a mental killer for him, so he mapped out a street course (without crossing any traffic) and ran it 4-5 times a week for a few weeks. He used music, he had a mental image of the finish line and the goal of earning an appointment.

Then he did the CFA. And yes, he was ready to hurl at the end. But he knew he had to do it once, just once it had to be painful and feel like death.
As other threads have pointed out, the CFA is an event that requires strategic planning. Shoes that help with a quick turn around on the shuttle run, floor surface that helps with the shuttle run. Not exceeding maximums in any category, efficient recovery during down periods.
After it is all over, train safely so you don't end up with stress fractures, bursitis in your hip etc.

Good luck to you.

I failed it😔. If you have scores similar to mine, train hard to improve them and remember it isn't too late until your application file is closed! I plan to reapply next year, good luck to all of the other potential 2025 candidates!

Thank you so much! I am taking this advice for re-applying, definitely not waiting until the last minute again.

Your grit and tenacity will serve you well no matter what happens in the future. Now you know what you need to do and by this time next year you will be significantly ahead of the game as you have a blueprint for success to follow.

Best of luck and let everyone know how it is going!

I’m sorry to hear that, hope to see you at USAFA in the class of 2026. Keep training and stay focused on the goal at hand.

First time posting ever for me! Anyways, I was never the fit one in my friend bubble... But after I set a goal of hopefully attending the academies, I put in the time to improve my fitness. The days that you feel the most unmotivated are the days that you need to work the hardest. After failing it the first time, I grinded for two weeks. I did run throughs every other day, and focused on one exercise on my 'off' days. It's been a week since I retook it and no word from them yet... (except USMA asking me to resubmit my videos) 👀

If you are passionate enough and you put in the time, you'll achieve it in no time. Believe in yourself and crush this thing next year!

Great attitude, @Waffles. If you follow through as you say, it will show resilience, grit and perseverance (whether or not you ultimately win offer of appointment). Those are traits of great officers. Go get it!

I’m sorry Waffles :( I know it will be better next year and you will be running a 7:30 or better mile. If it makes you feel better, pre-candidate questionare opens in only three months then from there time flies because you’re working on your application, fitness, etc.
Also COVID-19 might be over or at least a bit better so your experience will be normal and better than ever. If I don’t pass mine I will be right there with you applying for the class of 2026 with the best CFA scores USAFA has ever seen!!!

I’m so sorry you didn’t pass the second time but I’m glad you found out sooner rather than later. My daughter failed the first time, got notice the next day, then had a month to retake. She took it again a month ago and just TODAY found out she failed. Everything we’d read said if you weren’t rejected within a week that you probably passed. I guess that’s not the case. I totally get the reasoning, and I know it’s best that she finds out now not after she gets to an academy. Just wish they would have told her sooner. Best wishes for next year!

That's terrible!!! I think the only reason they contacted me sooner was because I sent them emails about it the day after I took it. Thanks, best wishes to you and your daughter too!

I told my ds that if he wasn't on the verge of throwing up when he completed the mile, that he wasn't pushing himself hard enough! Lol He passed even though the bar they used for the pullups came loose and bucked him off after only 7 pullups. Do your best, don't give up!
My DS was throwing up while rounding the last corner of his mile run... he had throw up on his shirt and shoes... as he did not stop to even throw up... I agree with you... you should give 100% and it should make you test every fiber of your being...

Waffles, keep your head up and keep training... next year is always an option if this is the route you want to take...
