Hi! I'm a senior applying to USAFA. I am a 5'2'' female and I took my CFA today. I'm happy with all my scores besides the mile. I normally run it an entire minute faster but the push-ups beforehand killed me. I did hurl during it though, so I know I gave it my all! I'm just wondering if my scores will be a pass. Any feedback is great! Thanks!

Pull-ups: 9
Basketball Throw: 41.5 ft
Sit-ups: 94
Shuttle run: 9.5 sec
Push-ups: 51
Mile: 7:56

Yes, your scores will definitely pass. I'm a female, and I only scored better than you in basketball throw (45 ft), and I passed! Your scores are really good. Go ahead and submit.

Your pullups are at the male average -- wow! Well done. It's your call as to whether you can or should do better. But in any case, first pat yourself on the back for those pullups (assuming you're not too sore to reach back there). 😂

Your scores look amazing! Any advice for someone about to take the assessment in the next few days?

When I took mine the biggest thing that helped me was taking deep breaths and focusing on getting my heart rate down in between events. I even did this during the first few events when you aren't too exhausted in order to help me before the mile. As for the mile, push yourself all the way to your limit. If you throw up, you know that you gave it your all. Last thing, get a good night sleep and don't eat too much before the test.
Good luck!

Thanks! My best advice that I was given was on the basketball throw, which was what I struggled the most with. About two weeks ago I could still only throw it about 35 feet. I got above 40 when I was told to aim for a spot high up on the gym wall, so that helps. For the push-ups, it was really a mental game for me. It got a lot easier when I started counting them like 4 count push ups (1231, 1232, 1233,1234,1235,). That made it feel like I had only done half as many as I had actually done. For the sit-ups, make sure that you've practiced it at least a few times with someone actually holding your feet. I know that sounds obvious, but I had been practicing by just shoving my feet under a couch, and when I first tried having someone hold my feet, it worked different muscles and I could only hit about 80. It took a lot of practicing it with someone holding my feet to get my scores to match the ones with my couch. Best of luck!

Does anyone know of CFA Administers that actually got contacted about the CFA? Why do they ask for the cell phone number and email then?

I took mine twice already, just wondering how do you know that you passed? also, we have only two chances to do this, right? I did two times with my PE teacher, he will submit the better/latest score soon...

Generally, when a checkmark has been present next to the CFA 'block' in your application for more than a week and you haven't received any news from admissions that you haven't passed then it's safe to say that you have passed.

Those who haven't passed get contacted within a week with an opportunity to retake (if they are deemed competitive). I'm not sure how many chances we actually are allowed - just try to get it done right the first time.

Do you know if they give a deadline to submit 2nd chance scores?

Yes. If you receive a letter in your portal telling you that you need to retake the CFA, they will give you a deadline.

Do you know if you can be requested to retake it after your application has been submitted? Like let's say that you submit a CFA close to your deadline, and then USAFA tells you that it is failing, would they set you a date to retake it even though your application is done, or would you be disqualified from admission?

Rest assured that if you’re asked to retake the CFA, then you’ll be given a very clear and very firm deadline. There should be no ambiguity about what’s expected of you.

If you suspect that you’ll be asked to do a retake, keep up your fitness regimen so that should it come to pass, you’ll be ready to do it again without delay.

MidCakePa is on-point!!

If you received notice a couple of days prior to closeout that you needed a retest, they could legitimately say "do it before the end date" however it's been my experience that they usually give anywhere from 1-3 weeks to redo the CFA. The timeline is theirs though, not yours.

My poor DD was all set to take tomorrow but the school is closed for Covid for a few days. Thankfully a local park has walking path that is marked and playground equipment that can handle pull ups. Crazy days!

The deadline is January 31 and this is the 3rd CFA retake for DS. He is retaking it and resubmitting it on January 31, we are hoping and assuming that the deadline is 11:59 pm on January 31. He's putting every free moment into training these last few days, the issue is def the BB throw.

Well, not really. If you failed the CFA, then they'll give you a month.

The portal says due dates are 1600 MST for a given day, be careful with using midnight unless specified otherwise. Good luck, I wish you the best !!
