I am a junior in high school and with:
3.7 GPA
Class of 2021 Secretary
Varsity Boy's Tennis
Model UN
National Honors Society
Internship at Mayor's Office
I have gotten a 4 on AP Human Geography, 4 on AP World, 4 on AP Art History, 3 on AP Biology, I am currently taking AP Seminar and AP English Language and am taking AP Stats, Government, Economics, Literature, Research, and Physics my senior year. I have taken the SAT once and got a 1190, (650 in English and 540 in Math), I have taken the ACT once and got a 31, with a Math score of 25, English score of 30, Reading score of 35, science score of 32, and a writing score of 8. I got an ELA and STEM score of 29. I am applying for SLE and intend to apply for nominations in about a month, I am also worried about the CFA, I am a skinnier, lanky person and have 1 pull up, 40 push ups, 65 sit ups and a 6:30 mile time. I know I need to improve in pull ups, but don't have the means to practice them regularly. I know I have a lot of time, but physical improvement takes time and I don't know where to begin.

What are my chances of getting a nomination and getting into Westpoint? I live in a big congressional district, so I don't know. Any advice or feedback would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I have no idea about your chances, but regarding your pull-ups, I do! You can buy a pull-up bar that fits on the top of a door frame. My dd used one of those and went from no pull-ups to doing 6 on her CFA. It took her about 3 months of diligent work to achieve that. You have plenty of time for improvement. I'm guessing most would say you need to boost your ACT math sub-section if able ( and you should be able to with focused studying). If you can boost your math ACT to a 29, you would move your overall composite up another tic due to super scoring. A 31 is great, but a 32 is better! Good luck!

Definitely stick with the ACT, your score converts to a much higher SAT score than the one you listed. You won't pass the CFA with the scores you listed--but you have an abundance of time to work on it. Look up workouts for APFT prep, it will be similar, and then a separate one for pullups. Your extracurriculars are solid, they are similar to mine, more or less.

A big congressional district doesn't necessarily mean it's competitive, or that there will be many others competing with you. Medical and physical knock a lot of cadet candidates out of the running.

Work on that CFA. Cross train. For example... DS needed work on his pullups. He not only did pullups to try to improve but also did a lot of rock wall climbing after running 2 miles to the rock wall place and then 2 miles home.

Seek out leadership positions. Ultimately this is about leadership. Secretary is nice, but the secretary isn't the "man in charge". If you can, without conflict with Tennis, try to do track in the spring and cross country in the fall.

You need to be able to tell stories of what you’ve done in your leadership roles. What have you learned about global perspective as a member of Model UN. How will those experiences shape you as a future leader. Strive to be the captain of your tennis team, then be able to speak to what you did as the captain… It’s more than calling the coin toss and leading stretches. Do something different/unique- start a captains club for your school or a mentorship program for the Tennis club. Start talking with your coaches now about goals for next season.
good luck!

Would definitely recommend trying to boost that math score, West Point loves math.

Also, your push ups could use a little work too, but I would definitely focus more on the pull ups (push ups'll come with it)

I would say out of the members of my team, I will most likely get the captain position next year. Math has always been a struggle as I do better in ELA. I take hard math classes(honors and AP) but normally get B's with the occasional C. With the ACT I know I need a better math score, but I am scared to retake it because I did so well on the other sections.

USMA superstores that SAT/ACT

Don't be nervous- the Academies superscore, so you can take it until you get a score you want to submit. Study, obviously.

Also try the SAT. People often do better on one than the other. Not sure about USMA, but USNA even superscores between SAT and ACT.

You can do it!
