What does placement to E-3 do for a cadet candidate at the prep school? (They are asked to bring proof so they can be placed accordingly, but I am not sure why. Is there a benefit?)
Higher stipend I believe

I don't know for a fact, but I would be totally shocked if a CAP cadet got a higher stipend due to winning an award. Do prior preppies get paid more at Prep school? If so, then if you enlisted first, then went to prep school, you might end up getting more because of your pay grade by virtue of being prior, but high school to prep school, I would be really surprised if you got more money.

You do get paid a higher stipend depending on multiple factors including but not limited to CAP awards, time in jrotc of any branch, and amount of college completed. Prior enlisted are paid at the pay grade the come in with.

Military Branches do offer elevated pay grade after completing basic training (or equivalent) to specific named award recipients. The window in time where pay was different would be limited to enlisted ranks, and for those in the prep pipeline, it would impact their pay during the prep school year. The increased pay would not carry into their cadet career after the prep program.

This looks to be a fairly good list by branch, but I suspect for recruiting purposes - any branch would match another in their offer:

I know for JROTC is you do three years in the program you can enlist at a higher pay grade. They may be baseing it off this as if you weren't at the prep school and went enlisted you would be making that money now.

CAP and USAFAPS

I can say that my daughter has been a member of CAP for the past five years and agree with all of the positive statements that CAP has to offer. My daughter joined when she was in 7th grade because she wants to fly. The experiences, and education she has received in CAP have been exceptional. She will be attending USAFAPS in July.

I am going to "throw" this question out there... to see if anyone may have the answer... My daughter recently promoted to C/2nd Lt and received her Billy Mitchell Award. I understand, that after BMT she will be a paygrade of E-1... Will her CAP Award enable her to earn E-2?

Thank you.
She automatically enlists as an E-3 if she so decides with the mitchell award

Currently, if you are a JROTC student...the magic number is three years. If you complete 3 years of JROTC, your senior instructor fills out whichever document the recruiter requires (I fill out an AF Certificate of Training Completion") and also, usually, writes a letter recommending that the JROTC member be enlisted at the higher grade as specified in that services regulations/instructions. I work with the recruiter to make certain we dot the i's and cross the t's.

Currently, if you enlist in the USAF or USN with 3 or 4 years of JROTC satisfactorily completed, you will enter as an E-3. The USA and USMC only offer E-2.
