Class '2026 Plebe Parents Weekend

Supposedly there is an error for Friday in that liberty ends at 2200 (10:00 pm), not 2300 (11:00 pm).

Unless he's within the DC/Balt./Annapolis metropolitan area per regs at his house and his parents drove him ....... :bleh2:

I also noticed that MIDs are only allowed to be in cars driven by their parents or parents of other MIDs. We might potentially use Lyft (I will be with my son). I wonder if that qualifies as ok. I'd hate to Lyft up to the gate and pile out just for him to get yelled at.

I would imagine it would be okay, but I have no immediate clue. What if you rolled up in an old-school taxi? Same thing, right?

That's a good point .. I suspect these instructions were drafted long before Uber and Lyft existed, and using the term "accompanied by parents, etc" is more appropriate. (What will happen when we have self driving cars ?). The intent and purpose of the rule is to keep Plebes from driving with buddies and girlfriends.

All that said this Parent Guide is not official Midshipman Regulations, and it is not the Parent's (or my :)) job to intepret and ensure your Plebe is following the rules. I am very confident that the Plebes will be told what they do, and don't rate. If in doubt, they should ask.

A pro tip -- Parent's Weekend is not the time to engage in sea lawyering , and trying to stretch the rules. It's usually not a problem, as Plebes are usually so scared of their shadow during PPW that they follow the straight and narrow. (There are exceptions of course --leading to epic crash and burns).

Relax - your young adult will be all over this - as will USNA (they do this a lot).

Last summer at PPW, DD introduced us to her detailers who "signed her out" with specific instructions when to return. One of her company mates got really sick over the weekend (covid) - they both had a specific number to call back at the yard to get instructions for medical.

We used Uber to get DD back. It was completely cool; long line of Ubers and mids at gate 1.

How skittish are they? - Uber driver saw her in dress whites and played Star Spangled Banner. She asked him to change the song because she did not know how to come to attention sitting in a car.

Then he played Anchors Aweigh - more explanations. ....

Through the circle and drop off at Gate 1 is a nightmare. They don't care how you got there but the Plebe will be ultra stressed and watching the clock.

Answers to a couple questions:

1. Uber and Lyft are okay. The spirit of the law is that MIDREGS prevents Plebes and Youngsters from possessing or operating a vehicle unless in a leave status. As long as they aren't the owner or the driver, the Academy doesn't really care.

2. Each company has a Company Duty Officer (CDO). Their sole job is to handle issues that come up throughout the day. It is a job that rotates through all the detailers. They post their cell phone and Plebes can contact them with questions/issues. The CDO is also in touch with higher level watchstanders like the MOOW (Midshipman Officer of the Watch - the MIDN in charge of the Brigade that day) and the PSWO (Plebe Summer Watch Officer - Commissioned officer who is in charge of the 4/C Regiment that day).

Last year our mid had a little tiny tiny tiny piece of paper that he was taking care of like a baby bird. Turns out it was his CoC phone numbers written down and he was instructed not to lose no matter what! 😆
Hmm...DS had the same.

After reading all of the angst I am sort of thinking our 2024 not getting a parent weekend wasn’t the end of the world i thought it was.

I am excited for 2026. And tomorrow we have a zoom for our state 2026 parents to chat about ppw and traffic and expectations etc. And just to check in with them. Camaraderie is a cool thing.

I defer to Old Navy BGO for expertise, but when I read the Parent's Guide I'd be hesitant to use Uber/Lyft. Of course, I don't cross the street until I get the walking okay sign. Maybe one of those peddle-cabs are okay. :)

a. Automobiles. Midshipmen are authorized to ride in automobiles only when driven by their parents, parents of classmates, officers and civilian faculty, and official USNA sponsors. This privilege commences after the noon meal formation on Friday, August 12, and expires at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 14, 2022.

Hi All - How do we gain access to the Yard to see Friday Morning PEP? Do we need to walk through a gate, or is security at the Visitor's Center?
