Class of 2015 Appointments

Candidate2239 - Congrats!!!
And, of course, you have applied to every nomination that you are qualified for, right?

Thanks!

I'm in the process of submitting my applications. Do you think I should go for a VP one? He gets thousands of apps and can only give out 10 noms, right? If I don't get one from my congressman, I don't have a chance with the VP?

YES - YES - YES, you should apply for the VP nom!!!

EVERYONE should apply for the VP nom !!!!

There are only 5 cadetships alloted to the VP.
IOW - only one or two slots are open every year.
Of course, that sounds like a long shot, but YOU may be the one.
Give WP every nomination that is available to you to find you a place.

Nominations are a very complicated creature, but in very over simplified terms, let's say, for whatever reason, that you did not get a MOC nom and West Point REALLY wants you and you did not apply for a VP nom then you may be out of luck. You have no nom. It happens, even to very qualified candidates.
BUT, if you applied for the VP nom then maybe you will be the one that the VP nom goes to since your other sources did not come through.

Someone from our state won the VP nom a few years ago. You never know.

So just in case I wasn't clear:

Apply for the VP nomination !!!!

received my appointment today through candidate portal!

Congratulations omnipsi!!! :yay::yay::yay:

Keep the grades up, be understanding when your parents may not want you to leave the house until R-Day and keep your nose clean!

Otherwise, enjoy your Senior year!! :thumb::thumb:

AKH
Way to go, I bet alot of folks are proud of you. Good Luck.

God Bless and God Speed,

RGK

I received my appointment today. I saw the huge package in the mail from the Department of the Army and started screaming. The neighbors must have though someone was dying! This is a wonderful blessing and great honor.

Congratulations! Your post made me laugh, I expect to react the same as you if I receive an appointment.

deadline for accepting

Now that I have received my USMA appointment, I am wondering what is the time-frame I should notify them of accepting or declining. I'm waiting to see if I also get an appointment to the Air Force Academy and then choose between them; however, I don't know how long I will have to wait to hear from them. What's an acceptable time to have notified USMA of accept/decline?

You have until May 1st - but according to a conversation with an admissions liaison its normally considered poor taste to wait until then when someone else can be notified of their appointment.

Yeah, I figured it wouldn't be good to wait too long. I'll just set Jan. 1st as a deadline for myself...

That is the same way that I feel. I got offered an appointment yesterday and I'am going to give it a little time until I respond. I'am still awaiting Airforce and Navy to respond. I'am guessing that they used my presidential but I'am not sure. For the both of us it should be great that we got an appointment this early!

Take as long as you need to make your decision.
This is your life and a long term commitment.
It is not a decision to be taken lightly.
No Academy wants you to feel rushed and possibly end up making the wrong choice and out-processing later.
Don't concern yourself with others that would want your spot. This is your appointment. You earned it. It is your spot. You take the time YOU need to decide what is best for YOU.
Wait until you have all the cards on the table, then take your time, don't feel rushed or pressured and then make your decision - as long as it is before the deadline!

And Congratulations to all who have posted here in the past few days that they have received an appointment to West Point.
AWESOME!!!! :w00t:
Thanks for sharing. :thumb:
We love celebrating with you! :groupwave:

I hope this is the right place to post, but....

Appointed today (October 26) NY-12 right before my soccer game

Hey y'all,

I havent posted on here in a while but please allow me to give some advice:

Congrats to those who have earned an appointment! Enjoy yourselves and the freedom you have now: trust me you will want it back when you are here, I promise. Work out a lot, but don't go overboard. Spend time with familiy and friends. Try not worry too much about the academy untill spring (stay in shape though :thumb:) and you can go into next summer ready to do well. Itl get there soon enough.:thumb:

Excellent point! As I told the youngsters debating about a possible class motto...enjoy the here and now. When it's gone, it's gone forever. High school probably feels like a lifetime ago to Beat Navy and the others.

Extremely happy to say I received an offer of appointment today! Good luck to everyone else working hard and hoping for theirs!
