Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

OK - Dumbest question out there right now is "Have you heard"... why is this dumb you ask? I get asked 100+ times a week (I see a lot of people each week through various organizations i'm a part of).

If I know you WILL KNOW too! I won't be able to shut up about it! You'll want to sedate me from my constant chatter (for your sanity). I'll have a perma-grin, i'll be bouncing off the walls - heck you might find me on the ceiling! or at least on a roof top - shouting it to anyone who will listen! I promise it will be a facebook post!

Bottom line - stop asking - because BELIEVE YOU ME - it will not be a secret!!

Oh and if it's a "No Go" - that'll be pretty obvious in my demeanor as well (and a Facebook Post).

Same here, except I've been asked this since I started the application process back in late August '11.
(I got off to a late start applying, I know. I didn't know service academies existed until July '11.)

If a candidate gets an appointment out of the National Pool - does the MOC still get notification?

Also on the online portal - the first "check box" at the bottom (USAFA Form 148) - just says "received" (the one about school profile) - where the rest say "received and processed" - does this mean - he has not even been looked at?

Thanks in advance!

No worries, DS portal says the same thing and he has had his appointment since Halloween '11.

BFE

Mailed as in postmarked on that day or expected delivery on the 28th?

I understood that they would be mailed on that day, so that means longer waiting I guess. They gave them this 7 day time slot to call, if they wanted to call. I know, unfortunately, that many won't know until the news arrives in the mail.

just out of curiosity... what will the portal say if you are not offered an appointment?

I think it says : "Candidate" and "Application Complete" until the next cycle begins. I don't think they change the portal if you are sent a QNV letter. Hopefully, you'll hear some good news soon. Best Wishes. :thumb:

mine says "candidate" right now. Yikes :frown:

All qualified applicants say "Candidate". I was just saying it continues to say "Candidate".

I understand. I've just got worst case scenarios playing in my head. I've never been this anxious before. I think I need to calm down.

I've been stalking this forum for several months now, and while I've found most of the comments made very insightful, I've never posted a message. Well, given this audience and the waiting game and tension we've all been experiencing, I thought I'd share a story with you that occurred last evening. My DS has been hopeful to receive an appointment to USAFA. We've all been stalking the mailbox, candidate portal, e-mail and phone calls. Last evening the phone rang and the call was noted as coming from the "U.S. Government." My wife answered the call and there was a recorded message that said the call was coming from our MOC (who my son had received his nomination from) and to stay on the line to speak with him!!!! You can imagine this anxious moment for my wife. This was the call we'd been waiting for???!!!! No, our MOC was holding a town hall meeting and we were invited to participate. False alarm. Happy stalking!

Decided I was too anxious to wait, so I started to call all my MOC's/MOS's. The first one was in a meeting-no answer, second one didn't have the information present, but the third one looked it up and...I RECEIVED THE APPOINTMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Honestly can't stop smiling!!:biggrin::biggrin:

Congrats to you!

I'm too chicken to call or encourage my DS to call himself......

Happy Stalking day from NC

Hi all -
I've been reading the boards for some time now - thank you for such a wealth of information, and humor!
We're still stalking here in NC - hoping for positive news soon!
Congrats to everyone who's already been accepted!
Those of you still waiting - I feel your pain!!!!

Pet Peeve: when soliciters call you from a weird area code (especially any one that resembles a DC area code). If it's a recording, I'll sit on the phone and yell at the recording that it got my hopes up and is now wasting my time.

you can call them?????? what did you say when you called?????

kskad1,
Remember you are taking a risk by calling, but the news will be the same, whether you find out today or Friday, or next week. It's up to you. You can say you have patience if you prefer to wait, or you can say you have courage if you choose to call. Either way, you can see it as a strength and a choice.

When you call, ask for the staffer who handles the nomination applications. You may know that person's name from sending in your application. Look in your files or on the MOC's website. Don't ask for the MOC. Tell the staffer that you heard the list of appointees has been sent out to MOCs. Did Sen/Cong ____ receive it, and would it be possible to know if your name is on the list? Listen carefully if you applied to more than one SA. If you want to ask any other questions, I recommend you write them down in advance so you don't forget due to nervousness or excitement. If you are on the list, don't get so excited that you forget to say thank you. Use your best telephone etiquette.

If he/she can't tell you, it doesn't mean you're not on the list. Just means he/she can't share the info. You tried, but will have to wait. Good luck!
