Falcon Foundation Scholarships

Falcon Foundation Scholarship offers have gone out. Those being offered will receive an email and see the offer on their portal.

There will be more offers later (depending on the accept/decline rate). Usually, about 50% of the Falcon offers are declined.

Wait list candidates

Any word on when the waitlist candidates might start to hear any news? On the facebook page it said that waitlist offers would go out as appointees declined their appointments, so we were thinking that might start happening around 4/15???

I suspect the very earliest any waitlist activity will occur is late next week. That is the earliest. Chances are nothing will happen for 1 to 2 weeks after that.

Any waitlisted candidates should hedge their bets on their plan B. That is, if you need to accept a scholarship or make some deposits, you should do so to protect those options. The worst that will happen is you will forfeit a deposit or two to accept the USAFA appointment. That stinks, but it's cheap insurance for a $400K+ scholarship.
 
Thanks, as always, for the info, Insider! DS is already working Plan B (AFROTC) as he received a QNV TWE last year. Here's hoping for lots of appointments for the waitlist and LEAD candidates, and good luck to all the candidates hoping for Prep School, FF, or class of 2017!
 
Would current Falcon scholars be hearing around the same time as the waitlisted candidates?

I believe the current Falcon Scholars will hear earlier (perhaps as early as mid to late next week). It may push out to the following week, however.
 
I am hoping Insider is still out there to get these questions... Are there any more USAFA direct appointments left or have they all been taken? If there are any left, who will they go to? I have heard that these appointments could be offered as late as the middle of May. Thank you!!!!

I don't think anyone really knows the exact answer to that question. There were probably several hundred offers of appointment that were sent out early on that have 1 May acceptance deadlines. The big wave of MOC offers that went out at the end of March all had 15 April acceptance deadlines, so, presumably, they have a count on those, but they need to wait until after 1 May for a firm count. JMHO
 
My son received his TWE in early april, so we're waiting/stalking I guess on the prep school and/or Falcon Scholarships. Since this is our first round (he plans on applying again next year) we're more curious than anything to understand the process. It's been extremely helpful to see the information from those that have endured this process in the past and to understand that there are many others who are so deserving and competing with some of the nations best! Congrats to all that have received word already and congrats to all those who have what it takes to compete in this arena. While my son is moving onto his college plans, he has not given up on the idea of attending the academy and a chance to compete with the nations best will only make him better. Being a veteran myself, I'm proud of all of you who have taken the path to even attempt this process and put your country first. That alone speaks highly of your character, IMHO. Even though this is my first post and my son's chances are dwindling for this year, I'll keep checking and hoping to see good news for those of you that we've followed through your trials. I wonder what the acceptance rate for the 4/15 deadline was.....someone posted that in Minnesota it was 95% (20 out of 21 accepted). Let's hope it was less than that for the other 49 states so that the candidates still waiting have a chance!

The acceptance rate has settled down to historical norms (around 81%) for those offers that have passed their expiration date. This was expected as those who know they will accept usually do so early, while those on the fence wait until the last minute.

There will likely be more offers made (primarily to those candidates that were notified they were on the waitlist). How many will get offers is still unknown. USAFA has promised everyone on the waitlist will know one way or the other by May 15.

There may be some offers to candidates not on the waitlist, but those will be few (if any).

Prep appointees: You've got mail!

Should be BFEs in the mailbox starting today. It won't be the Instructions to Appointees, as they don't have them printed yet, but you should receive something like an offer letter and something you need to mail/fax back to accept. Please post what you get when it comes. More mailbox stalking...:biggrin:
 
Patience is key....

So I am one of those candidates that is waiting past my hs graduation to find out anything about my appointment status. And I am trying to picture that as a good thing. I'm happy I'm still in the running, but timeliness on all of this would have really helped me. I trust God has the right timing.

My DS is in the same situation. Happy to still be in the running but ready to know the future. This year has given many a taste of what the real Air Force is like. You don't have much control and never really will. That's what makes it so much fun (for the right people).

Just found out from my ALO that I have been offered an appointment... still in shock, to say the least! Best wishes for all the other awaiting Falcons, you should know any day guys. Stay strong!
