LTR... which congressman in FL? Anxiously awaiting here in Central Florida from a Sen Nelson NOM.
 
And the same us... DD received the dreaded portal update today. To all... good luck to your candidates. I wish them all the very best. This class of 2020 will be an amazing one.. both at USNA and at the various NROTC programs or other SA's. I hope to see many celebrations on this thread soon! However, I can now say that my DD will be attending either Saint Mary's College (accepted) or Notre Dame (won't find out until April 1) on NROTC scholarship. Moreoever, I'm most proud to say that she will be serving her country! My best to you all! Beat Army!

About a week or so before the deadline for all candidates to be informed one way or the other. He spoke with me for approx. an hour talking about what options my son had and said we should most definitely encourage him to reapply as he felt he was/is a strong candidate. I was then faced with either telling my son or waiting for the TWE. I sat in my car and cried as I thought of my son realizing his dream as long as I can remember will not play out as planned. I decided to tell him. I am actually getting emotional as I write this, who knew it could still be such a hard thing to discuss. So, I gently told him what was coming in the mail, he was crushed. No words were said :(. The tour at the university was not quite as lovely as I had hoped. By the way trying to be overly eager about anything at that point is not good. My constant cheerleading techniques were not appreciated. My advice is let the news sink in. Saying "you can reapply" are NOT words of comfort in the early stages of TWE news. His TWE arrived and he took it took his room, my husband and I never saw it. I suspect he stashed it and used it later as motivation. After a few months when the sting was almost gone he volunteered to us that he would reapply to USNA. He is NROTC-MO this year. He has explored several routes to get to a USMC commission. He has assured us that the end result is what he desires, the route to get there may not be what he originally had planned but... Good luck to all the candidates. This is the most difficult part of the application process.

Just had to deal with the dreaded email today. Appreciate the wisdom of what you have to say -- everyone telling him "it will work out in the end", etc. ARE NOT helping. I think this is the first time I ever heard him cry -- I actually left work to bring him home from school at noon. Anyway, now he has to choose his Plan B school....if I could ask you about college program option for NROTC? We are in the fortunate position of NOT having to go on NROTC scholarship (I have a generous tuition remission benefit from my employer). Does it matter one way or the other (scholarship or college program) other than not having summer cruise? Best of luck to your DS at the academy for class of 2020!
