Hello all, I’ve made this thread to see who is applying for the NROTC and MO Scholarship for the graduating class of 2021. If you’re currently applying and have any questions, post them below. I have finished and submitted my application. That being said if you’re applying, reply to this and see who else is applying. Good luck!

my son will be applying MO. He has to wait to submit his application because he doesn't have an ACT or SAT score. He was supposed to take the ACT 1 week after schools closed and the SAT 2 weeks after they closed. We are in Maryland and there is a possibility that our kids won't go back to school until January (god forbid). I am not sure how he will get an ACT/SAT score in that case. It's very frustrating. He has lost so many important opportunities to make his application stand out because of COVID.

What are your college choices? His first choice is VA Tech and his 2nd is Old Dominion. That is for the MO, but he is also going to apply AROTC and the college choices will change. He wants to major in Geospacial Information Systems (GIS) but there aren't that many colleges with that as a major so it's been difficult to find a match between the branch of ROTC and major.

My top college is Oregon State University, I know they have a great NROTC program. I’m not sure if OSU has that major, but they could. Another college I have considered is Texas ATM. Both of these schools have respectable ROTC units, but I understand if you’d rather stay on the East Coast. (Maybe try University of Washington/Arizona - They are on my list, but towards the bottom)
As for the SAT/ACT I got lucky and took the last available test before everything shut down, however I’d like to take it again and improve. I’ve heard some rumors that they will allow you to submit the application before taking the test due to the closures, but once you take it, it is your responsibility to update the application. Though I don’t know how true this is.
I am applying for the MO as well.
I hope this helps, good luck to your son!

I’ll have to have my son contact his coordinator about the scores and see what he says. That’s an interesting rumor. I’m would hope the powers that be would make exceptions for those states that are still on lockdown and cannot hold tests

Totally agree with you. There's no reason why exceptions shouldn't be made, although the military is very slow to change. The next available SAT test I know of is September 27 (may just be the closest west coast test), however that's cutting it close for the first review board.

Agreed! Our "road map to recovery" put out by the governor says we won't be back in schools until January. They are going to have to do some fancy planning to get these kids back in the school for tests

SAT exams are given in locations other than schools. Not everyone taking a SAT to enter college is in high school. That means there are possible alternatives you should be on the lookout for.

The only place locally that they are given here are at our Community College and high schools. The problem is that our gov. wont allow for gatherings of over 10 people. That has not been lifted and won't be lifted until "Phase 2" of the road map

I'm also applying for the NROTC Scholarship right now! From what I've heard (please correct me if I'm wrong), the ACT is considering going online if the whole COVID-19 situation doesn't get better for fall, and I think College Board is looking into it as well. I know College Board is doing monthly exams starting in Aug-Sep, so I think we'll have some chances to take the test before the first board (fingers crossed!). I talked to an NROTC admissions person for my state, and he said the first board is happening in October(ish?).

I wish everyone the best of luck!

As discussed, there are 2 boards for the NROTC-MO Scholarship. The 1st Board is typically in early November and the 2nd is in March. There may be a possibility that the Boards are delayed in order to accomodate any change in the testing protocol. Good luck.

I have heard about online as well. I talked to my sons HS person in charge of the ACT/SAT. She said that we are at the mercy of the state as far as testing. Until they give some sort of guidance on the administration of the tests the kids are out of luck. She too had heard about the ACT & SAT possibly gong online just like the AP test did.

Just read this off of the NROTC Scholarship site

ACT has cancelled the April national and international test dates and rescheduled them for June; ACT is offering flexible scheduling options for June and July, test date changes and rescheduling fees free of charge. Refunds for registration fees are also still available. http://www.act.org/content/act/en/covid-19.html In addition to the previously planned fall test dates (Sep, Oct and Dec); ACT plans to launch the test-at-home remote proctoring in late fall/early winter as part of their National Testing Program. http://leadershipblog.act.org/2020/04/act-to-offer-students-additional-summer.html.

SAT has cancelled the June SAT Administrations. Pending public health and safety, College Board is planning for weekend SAT testing every month through the end of the calendar year, beginning in August. College Board is notifying students; access to early registration for Aug, Sept and Oct testing is available, refunds for registration fees are also still available. In the unlikely event that schools don't reopen this fall, the College Board plans to provide a digital SAT for home use.

So it looks like online testing MAY be an option!

MO or Navy? I’m going the MO route.
What colleges are you interested in?

I'm just doing Navy. Right now my top colleges include U of Utah (safety), UCLA (reach), and a couple of others. Not sure how it's all going to work out, but hoping for the best. Good luck to you, and let's hope all our hard work has paid off! :)
