My 2024 just told me they are doing Sea Trials with the company they are leaving rather than the company they are joining. They are very busy with the move. He was too busy to talk---can old salts explain if Sea Trials is a competition, one company against another? We watched the last Sea Trials (class of 2021's) to get an idea, but this seemed to be more about the CNN correspondent than the mids!

Certainly more about the ex-NFL player than the MIDNs. That guy was there for my son's Sea Trials as well. He said he was sort of a knob, and just wanted to pose for photos with the MIDNs.

Sea Trials are only a competition for the Companies who treat it that way. It is technically a "final physical and mental challenge to the plebes, designed to test their teamwork and to reinforce their bonds as a company and class."

At the end of Sea Trials, the company of plebes who demonstrate "the top unit performance through endurance and spirit during the entire course" will be recognized with the “Iron Company” award during a brief presentation.

I have seen Plebes running across the bridge smoking cigarettes, so mileage obviously varies.
The whole thing is sort of modeled on the Marine Corps physical tests, but it ain't no Quigley. ;)

Coy was embedded with ‘22’s trial. Can confirm, via my ‘22, he napped between evolution shoots. Coy. To be clear. Not my Mid...although he probably wanted to.

It’s a pretty cool bonding, end of the year kind of thing. My guy is excited. They are in squads, and are only as “fast” as their weakest link, as far as iron company. It’s also a bit of an advantage/disadvantage depending on the order of evolution. IE: the long run early is ‘easier’ than having that long run late in the day, 14 hours later.

And mine and 11 of his soon to be best buds will miss it for an LREC— @justdoit19 maybe your mid can relay how it went to mine via you and I. Here’s to an injury free Sea Trial.

My Youngster is also participating as a squad leader. I feel like it’s 3/c’s turn to experience the Sea Trials they missed. Texted him good luck last night and he responded with a “thanks. I have to get up in 3 hours” 😬 Good luck 2024!!

I suppose there is no live streams or local news feeds coming from this morning?

At least it feels more exciting as a parent than waiting out one of DS' calculus exams to ask how it went. Best of luck to all the plebes and their groupies :)

My son didn’t text me last night ... I suspect he went to bed early.

I’d love to see a live stream.

I will tell you what I found the most impressive about when my DS went through Sea Trials.

He said that they had all their NWUs back the next day from the laundry, as clean as they were before they started Sea Trials.
That is pretty outstanding.

No live stream for the general public. But the Naval Academy Instagram account is running live update stories. Stories only stay for 24hrs, so if you want to see, take a peak ASAP.

I messaged mine a “good luck” text. Around 10...figuring he was sleeping but would get it when They woke.

Apparently it’s a thing for some to stay up all night and not go to bed. He was sooooo excited and pumped.

I don’t expect to hear from him until tomorrow. I suspect they will pass out.

Such a great thing...rites of passage.

Well my son has some explaining to do. I texted him around 8:30 about sea trials to wish him luck. And no response!

Just a quick question regarding those who wear glasses. For something like Sea Trials, in which the Pugil Sticks are used, and there’s hand to hand combat practice, along with lots of trudging through muddy water, do those that normally wear glasses keep them on or do they require you to take them off? From the USNA Instagram, I haven’t seen anyone with glasses participating in the activities, which doesn’t seem like an accurate representation of the actual amount of plebes with glasses, so I was just curious.

I'll ask DS once he ever resurfaces. I am guessing he wore his as much as possible. Others may be wearing contacts instead???
