Coach Ken is not coming back for 2023.

I know it is not ok to go around punching people in the mouth anymore which is why I have a list of people that just may get hit when I retire. But figuratively speaking looks like Coach Ken got sucker punched and maybe his big brother needs to go have a chat with Chet.
I am asking nicely to take me off the list if I ever posted something that bothered you!

We are all good, it’s not easy to get on the list but a few shady/selfish individuals have wormed their way into my brain housing group and have been renting space. One day rent will be due. Figuratively speaking of course ……..

This has been a MIDN rallying call as long as I have been at USNA.
I am aware of this and also have some behind the curtain info from a classmate whose son played for Coach Ken during one of the "good years" that is not in keeping with his reputation. As is often the case, the public info and public reputation of folks is sometimes at odds with reality. I'll use as an example a former top Admiral from a couple of decades ago who was known as the "Sailors Admiral" and widely reputed to be a great guy but privately was not nice (to say the least) to his staff and others who had to deal with him.
In this case, I don't know Chet and certainly don't approve of his tactics in this and other situations like the Ivin Jasper firing but don't forget that he also managed to build up the USNA Athletic Program into the third most sports of any college in the US as well as adding/upgrading facilities in many cases. I'm not a Chet fan by any means but when you evaluate the man, also look at his accomplishments.

Chet has never been known to be a personable guy. In person he is awkward, short in words, and often can be harsh. But, he gets results… raising funds, winning, hiring great coaches, improving facilities, promoting and adding teams. You can’t argue with his results over the last 2 decades. All of this done with a tough recruiting environment and admissions requirements. Graduation rates of athletes are at the top for USNA. He has gotten results.

No one likes to see a well liked coach go. Ken was loved, he did a lot of good for USNA and lots of young men. He will be missed. I appreciate his character and example he set. COVID, NLI, transfer portal… tough few years for sure. But, it’s a business. It’s a business of recruiting 17-18 year olds. Not only that, it’s them then coming in and performing and improving. At USNA that is hard with Plebe Year. Many athletes, even at the D1 level, just don’t improve. It happens… a lot. College coaches rely on a bunch of 18-23 year old knuckle heads to pay their mortgages and buy food. It’s part of the deal. High risk, high reward. If I was only succeeding less than 50% of the time in my job, I would be canned quickly. The program will go on. Chet has a plan. I hope it’s hiring Newberry and a great OC. Only time will tell.

I am in complete agreement with the AD’s skills - the top-notch new facilities, marketing, fund-raising, overall management of the programs.

Most mids have no idea what happens behind the scenes. Objectively, Mr. Gladchuk is probably one of the best ADs in the country.

Mids ***** and complain because NAAA takes $25 out of every mid’s paycheck every month and most mids get nothing for it. In classic MIDN fashion, we’re complaining about the wrong person because the approving authority for our pay issues is not the AD.

If you want to see what students at "normal" colleges deal with, you can try googling the Rutgers Athletic Dept which has been operating at a HUGE deficit for some years now and the University is "loaning" the money needed to cover and at least one year was over $80M. Now you might think that is from the University and not the Students on a monthly basis but think about where the University gets its $$$, the Students and from the Taxpayers (among other sources).
I know that you also know that the NAAA also provides the intramural stuff that almost every Mid uses and really just about all of the athletic equipment with the exception of much of the sailing program (of course) which has its own independent means of support.

25 bucks a month is 25% of the mids monthly salary!

No matter who the new coach will be, Chet Gladchuk made it very clear that Navy will continue the triple-option offense. That should narrow down the candidate pool...

25 bucks would be 25% of their take home (for many). Not sure what current Mid pay is before all the fees and payback, $600+?
Lol I was joking. To be honest - 25 isn’t all that much. My daughter paid way more at her D1 school.

Last night I took my son out for beers and dinner when he got home. One semester left. And I am amazed at where he is. He was way better off financially than my daughter was throughout school (as far as spending money).

It is more than fair.

There are 2601 signatures on a change.org petition to “fire Chet Gladchuk.” People are still talking about how it was done.
Real question: do those petitions (I’ve also seen other ones to #FireChet circulating) do anything?
I am sure the Supe is not oblivious to public perceptions of USNA, and recognizes the way Gladchuk handled the firing was wrong. The AD violated the first law of the Navy -- Don't embarass the Navy. That said, whatever action the Supe takes is not going to be swayed a whole lot by public opinion - he will do what he thinks is right, and best for USNA base upon input from his advisors. (I looked at the Navy Sports website last week, and it has a pretty good description of the USNAAA governance structure).

As to the question of whether Petitions work ...nothing in the Navy is run by democracy. Sometimes the Old Skipper has to make unpopular decisions.
