Competitive district question

Yep, we found his CFA score this way as well.
I’m a little confused on the CFA scores because it says 531 and qualified but I was under the impression that a 550 was needed to be qualified. I don’t know how it is that low considering I thought I did well on the CFA.

Ok 531 is super great, I thought I did really well but I had a 457 😭

I had a 535 and my admission counselor said they were some of the best scores they have ever seen

How do you see whether a district is under-represented?
I don't know what the rest of the people on this website will say, but I strongly urge people against spending time trying to figure out everything about this process. It will eat you alive, and you will be distracted for the entire cycle. If you have no control, please do not worry about it. I say this because I was there. My first application I did the exact same thing. If you're a senior, just enjoy the best year of high school, and please do not let the SA's hang over your head. Good Luck!

I realize what I did now, I believe that WP uses a different scale and I was comparing it to the WP scale.
West Point uses a different scale than Navy. Navy is based on a 600 scale. Each event is worth 100. West Point, you need a 550 to pass. At Navy, a 550 is a great score. I got a 549 for Navy, and it said it was a 99 percentile score on the CFA calculator. I saw someone say that you need like around a 350 to pass, but I don't think it is a set number.

I am from Southern California, I already turned in my APP for USNA… now just need to wait for a response. I hear that California as a whole is a competitive state, by chance does anyone know how competitive the Southern California region is?
Very heavily dependent on congressional district. The state as a whole is ridiculously competitive. Nominations from the senators are hard.

I was from California. There were ~40 candidates for 2 USNA nominations in my district. I had an LOA, and both senators didn't even bother to send a rejection letter. I just didn't get invited to interviews and never heard back. I remember calling the MOC staffer when I got the LOA, she wasn't impressed, I just another guy with an LOA.

My buddy from the next district over had zero competition--he was the only high school candidate applying to USNA, along with two others applying to USMA. The district hadn't sent anyone to USNA for a while and had plenty of nominations open. He just had to fill out the application, basically just had to ask nicely.

If you have a nomination from a CA senator, you're probably a *very* competitive candidate. If you don't, don't worry about it, there's a lot of CA appointees that never got one.

I had a 328 first try, maxed out 2 events and did well on the others, qualified.

Yeah, I am sure it is not just a set number, and they are willing to mark you as a pass if you make up for it in other areas. Not sure how it works exactly though.

I would say on average expect it to have a lot of applicants. Coastal state with many Navy and Marine bases.

Also I would advise to let go of the Java miracle wonder wand and just experience the process as intended.

Even if you think you have cracked the admission nut and have discovered inside data—- no guarantee.

"Java Miracle Wonder Wand" could be the name of a band...or maybe a screen name for SAF. 😆

Your kid would have gotten in even if he was from our area!

Mine didn't even get in with an LOA because of no nom. :p
