Hello, I will be having my MOC Interview in a few weeks for my nomination. I was wondering, are interviews normally set up with 1 applicant facing the panel or are all applicants in the area/state interviewed in the same room at the same time?

Thanks so much.

Typically, it's one candidate "facing" a panel. The panel could be two people or a larger group, but in my experience usually not more than three interviewers. That said, MOC has his/her own process so how things work in one district may or may not be the same as other districts.

Thank you for the quick response. I want to be as prepared as I can be for this interview because it’ll be my last one in the application process (I’ve just completed my B&G interview). Are there universal questions MOC Interviewers will ask?

my DS was alone with panel but other candidates were in waiting area
senators had large crowd bc of multiple panels simaltaneous but rep was single panel so only 1 other waiting

My DS described one interview as having eight (8) on the panel, arranged in a "V" formation at tables.

He had a chair with no arms to sit in, right in the middle of that V.
Room arranged for maximum stress.
Awesome. :)

I really hope that was not the case. These are 17-yr-olds who are probably already stressed enough. I don't think trying to make them LESS at ease helps anyone. Not saying it didn't happen, but that it shouldn't happen, IMHO at least.

It is possible that the arrangement described above was to give everyone on the committee a good seat to see/hear the candidate and that the committee members, who are in the chairs all day/night, took the "comfy" seats for themselves. Also, they may want to give everyone have an opportunity to meet every candidate and think the group approach is the most efficient. I don't, but I'm not running the committee.

The good news is that your DS obviously handled it well!
