Cost of attending USMMA

I believe the MMC is the Merchant Narine Credential . You need this credential to be able to board a commercial ship.

MMC is senior year. You won't even be able to apply before then.

Incorrect, MMC is given out Sophomore year, with OS/Wiper/Cadet on it. After you pass license they update them with 3rd Mate/Engineer and any endorsements you may have gotten over the years.

Ditto to what Mr2020 said. A cadet cannot go on sea year without his or her MMC credential. It is important to get all paperwork that is required for your MMC submitted timely and correctly or your ship assignment will be delayed.

My bad ... completely forgot about those. Mine said Cadet-Observer back in the good old days.

I spent a good chunk of mine, but I had some pretty good ships and runs, including a couple of break bulk. I really didn't feel like I was rolling in it until I paid off of my first ship after school, three months as a Day Third on an SL-7. . . THAT was some dough. . . . .

My last ship was a great run ... break bulk, two days each in Maui and Kauai, lots of time off, the Captains truck and a pocket full of cash from both crew and officers! It's good to be a gangster!!!

I sailed on a couple of ships where the engineers gave me an "allotment" every now and then before going ashore. . . . and almost always had the days off when in port. . . . nights, too.

Mine also had an endorsement for "Lifeboatman". I even remember taking the test. . .
