Hey! I am plebe at USNA right now, and just wanted to pass by and offer the opportunity for either the class of '26 to ask questions or for those who got rejected as well. It is a long and draining process, but giving up after failing once is not worth it. Anyways, I will try and keep up with any questions and stuff like that.

😱

DS is debating who to ask for teacher recommendations for the re-application process. Do you think HS teachers or college profs will be a better choice? Can probably get the HS recs faster and know him better, but college work is more challenging however might not know him well.

What takes the top priority - homework/studying for your variety of classes or morning workouts - do you have any ability to spend more time on classwork if a student has a big paper or lab or exam due?

USNA accepts either. They prefer college profs b/c they can comment on performance in college. However, many freshmen classes are huge lecture classes where it's difficult for the prof to get to know students. If you search on this forum, you'll find examples of college applicants who made it their business to get to know their profs, even in large classes, so they could get meaningful recs. However, if that seems challenging, then using senior year teachers is ok.

Don’t want to hijack the thread…in addition to USNA1985’s recommendation, make sure to follow USNA’s policy (posted on admissions website) on teacher/professor recommendations and what ones you can/can’t (previously) re-use for the next cycle.

So which Company has the best mascot/nickname? Which Company has the best berthing areas in Mother B? What do you think about the upcoming Plebe Company Scramble?

My Firstie and his mates told me last weekend that they are never going to take stairs in the future if there is an elevator available. ;)
My Plebe DS is looking forward to not chopping and sounding off and having access to more ladders in less than 6 weeks.

LOL!

Best for proximity to Academic locations? Best for avoiding wandering OODs/inspecting officers? Best for formation location? Best for distance to sports/gyms?
I think the penthouse suites with en suite bathrooms, heated decks, king-sized bunks, concierge service and sound-proofing are the ones my DH recalls with fondness. (Apply tongue-in-cheek font).

We were among those who chopped, etc. for the entire plebe year (we didn't even get carry on after Army since we tied and, given we were supposed to win, it was considered a loss). Thus, what I enjoyed most about youngster year was being able to walk down the sides of passageways, look around as much as I wanted, use youngster ladders and use the curved walkways of Stribling. The "youngster stroll" -- loved it!

DS has been chopping all Plebe year.

I had a CVW during the proknow midterm and I saw a lot of very stressed plebes, so I'm wondering how challenging and time consuming are the proknow quizzes every week? Also, how challenging is it to remember all the information and recite it for chow calls everyday? Chow calls seem a little nerve racking to me, but I assume they must get easier as they become apart of your daily routine. Thank you for any insight!

You will figure it out. It’s amazing what your brain can learn and retain. Painful at first, but by this time next year, piece of cake.

Worry about it when it’s time to do so. No sense in thinking about it now.

The reason for these is down the road, you may be in a chaotic, dangerous, operational situation, people yelling all around you, alarms going off in your cockpit or on the ship’s bridge or some other live, real, situation, announcements are being made, the surrounding noise is deafening, etc. Your brain has to know it can triage the information, use muscle memory and memorized procedures to act and think and decide without delay, direct your people calmly, assess, adapt, survive.

Stress is part of the training. You learn how to handle it and use it and not succumb to it. If someone doesn’t, they may not be on the right path - which is why you can walk away without obligation until you start your academic year as a 2/c.
