Anyone from the Chicago area have a kid going to the CVW in September? Wondering about transportation from the airport, and what to do while there as a parent.

BWI, DCA or IAD?

If BWI, just Uber to Annapolis and wherever you are staying. Others will post about parents’ presentation.

On the Yard (USNA “campus” but don’t call it that), there is the Visitor Center with store, short film, rotating exhibits. USNA Chapel (Tiffany windows). Naval Academy Museum. The public area of Bancroft Hall, the dorm building. You can see a model midshipman room and Memorial Hall. I can’t recall if you get a tour, but you can book a walking tour at the Visitor Center.

Just outside Gate 1, wonderful downtown Annapolis (DTA) historic district awaits. Food, walking, historic buildings and gardens, Signers’ homes, Bay views, crab cakes…. The Annapolis Visitor Center is at the water end of Main St.

They had parents’ tours during CVW in 2019. It took a few hours and was a good way to burn time and learn.

We fly from MDW to BWI when we visit the Yard because it's the closest. An Uber to the Visitor Center at Gate 1 costs about $50-$60. BWI is about a 30-40 minute trip under normal traffic conditions.

There will be parent sessions scheduled for you to attend during CVW. They are extremely informative and I encourage attending them all. You will hear from admissions, the superintendent, the provost, mids from every class year, etc. They will present and take questions. You will be given a tour of the Yard and have time to explore on your own.

We are flying MDW to BWI. I was just wondering if anyone from Chicago will be going the same weekend?

I would hazard a guess there will be several families traveling to BWI. You tend to find one another. And if you don’t, that’s okay too. Do your thing. Use ride shares and make your trip your own.
