DS is attending in person summer seminar. He is recovering from Covid and concerned his CFA won't be up to par with what he normally could perform at in addition to difference in altitude etc. Does he have the option to decline CFA there and do it on schedule as in current candidate phase with USAFA? My understanding if does it there, then that is what he scores, no retake.

Based on the schedule sent, the time slot for CFA shows as a workshop. Fairly certain it's basically info and tips, not a full CFA.

In one of the Admissions discussions, DD asked this question and was told that the CFA at the Summer Seminar was for practice because of the altitude difference and will not be considered for the admissions. On the other hand if you were to take the CFA at the USNA Summer Seminar and want that to be considered for USAFA, you could request that.

Unless things have changed, I believe the CFA conducted during the Summer Seminar does officially count toward the admission requirement and will be reflected as "complete" in the candidate's CIS.

I had twin sons who are 2013 graduates. Both were invited to the Summer Seminar. Only one attended because his brother had a sports commitment that conflicted with that time period. My son who attended did do the CFA and it did fulfill the admissions requirement. He never took the CFA again. That was sufficient. My other son - the one who did not attend the Seminar - had to conduct the CFA on his own under the guidance of his high school baseball coach.

I don't know if a candidate can refuse to perform the CFA at the Summer Seminar. All I know is that it did count for my son. No other CFA was required. Having said that, I suspect that if a candidate wanted to perform another CFA and submit those results at a later time, he/she probably could.

DD just completed the USAFA Summer Seminar in person and she had a wonderful time and got an insight into things that she had only read about. They had a practice CFA with others in their element. The Element leader and Cadre mentioned that they are not considering this CFA for admission.

When DD attended USAFA SA several years ago, the CFA was done but didn’t count. There are 6000 reasons for this — as in feet above sea level that USAFA sits. That makes it quite challenging, unless you’re one of the few who already live at high elevations.

This topic has been debated before where it seems like 7258' was pulled seemingly out of thin air.

At any rate, here's a screenshot from the US Geological Survey national map spot elevation tool. The left point is the top of the hill near the Visitor's Center. The right point is approximately the position of the hill on the terrazzo infield. 7340' and 7164', respectively.

Strange... Nonetheless, I don't think the classic altimeter check is getting changed any time soon.

Even if it is wrong, it's still far, far above that of West Point or Annapolis

No, CFA will not be counted if the student does not want to use it.
