Designated Nominations

I just received a nomination, and I do not believe my congressman uses the principal nominee evaluation process. I am a white male, and I need every bit of help I can get. Would it hurt to ask my congressman to designate me as the principal nominee? I realize that she would probably say no, but it would not hurt to ask, right?

Your MOC uses whatever method they decide to use. Some might have other opinions on this one, but I think it’s poor taste to call and ask to be the principle. And please take a look at the class profiles for each SA... the largest group of appointments each year are to Causcasian males.

I’m going to be upfront on this one.

You’re the type of kid that scares me. I can see you’re going to try anything possible to give yourself a heads up at the expense of other kids. Change yourself when you go to college - whichever school that may be.

My DD isn’t from your state so I’m not worried about nom competition from you. What I am worried about are kids like you who may be in the class as my DD.

I’m sure you’re not the only one like that. There’s usually a handful in every class. Just change your thought process within the next couple of weeks. You’ll go a long way if you do.

@caliboy, on one hand I admire your cojones, and on the other hand I loathe your presumptiveness. But I remind myself that you’re young, so I offer only a question and a statement.

Question: Why, as a white male, do you need all the help you can get? (And whatever your answer to that may be, I’ll just say that one gives himself help by excelling at academics, leadership, athletics and fitness — simple as that.)

Statement: One does not ask for the principal nomination, one earns it. (And that’s true regardless of how the MOC chooses his/her principal nominee.)

I'm usually the guy who says it never hurts to ask; but this question would at least be in extremely poor taste and certainly mark the questioner as fairly immature. Skip it.

I am chalking this up to you being a little immature and inexperienced in life. Perhaps a little coddled too.
I have to say, if I were the person who had nominated you and and you asked me for a principal, explaining your reasoning to me as you just have....I would really consider revoking my nomination for you all together.
Please don’t do it, and please think hard about why you are receiving this kind of feedback.

If you already have the nomination then this is a moot point. The MOC has already chosen the process and I do not think he can go back after the fact and change it. Furthermore, I don't think asking would get you anywhere and could quite possible just annoy the MOC as it comes across as presumptive. You have a nomination so be grateful for that and now, just like everyone else in your shoes, you have to wait.
