Hi everyone! I've been looking on these forums for a while, but I decided to make an account! So I am applying for the AROTC scholarship. I took my PFA and I got a score of 70 pushups 72 sit-ups and 8:30 on the mile run. I know it is slow but I thought it would be enough for the application. I heard form a couple of people who have the AROTC scholarship that it is a "sub8 minute mile or fail" while other people say "8:30 should be fine." I'm a big guy and I know that it is a slow time. I am trying to get better and better at running. But will I be disqualified for these numbers? I submitted them into the portal, and they didn't say anything about it, so I am not sure.

Here’s a proxy to help you draw your own conclusion: CFA average mile is 6:43 for male USMA candidates. Yes, that’s for West Point, but I’d consider that a very good marker for AROTC candidates as well. (The average for females is 8:06, for additional context.)

Here’s the source: https://www.westpoint.edu/sites/default/files/pdfs/USMAPS/CFA_Instructions.pdf
oh I'm to assume that it is disqualification because the difference between mine and the averages with the CFA. Do you know if I am able to retake the test even though they approved it? Thank you for the advice!

Not at all. I merely provided the information so you could draw your own conclusion. To be sure, you need to contact an AROTC official, not anonymous posters on an online forum.
Ok! Would asking the PMS doing the interview be good? Also, I need to do much more running! Those numbers are astonishing but I think I could make it!

One thing I would ask, and you probably will be in your interview, is ‘why are you scores so low (IDK if they are, but you are stating that you could do better)?’ No need to answer, but what I would be looking for, is: ‘WHAT DID YOU DO to improve your score? Surely you practiced. We’re you happy with your practice score? How did you train? Are you happy with THIS score’?

If you have been looking here for awhile, then you know it’s imperative to submit your BEST package, as soon as you can. And I believe I recall reading that you only get one look at AROTC (not positive about that, my guys were NROTC and AFROTC applicants).

It’s a national competition from the get go. You have to be the one they want. Imo, the time to train for your best attempt isn’t later. It was before.

Good luck to you. Keep in mind that if a scholarship isn’t ultimately awarded directly, you can join and compete for one as a college programmer. Some people forget that piece.

Are you talking about the ROTC scholarship applicant test? The one where you have 1 minute to do pushups, and 1 minute to do situps? I find it impossible to believe that you did 70 pushups in 1 minute with proper form, considering that would be more than a pushup a second.

Push-ups and sit-ups are 1 minute long. Remember, maxes are 50 each so it doesn’t help you if you go to 70. Also, if using correct form, 70 seems quite difficult if not impossible to reach.

LOL

After sea trials, my son called me and told me about it. His friend did an event in a great time.

Guiness Book of World records should have been contacted. It destroyed the world record. ;)

I didn't research enough and didn't know 50 was the max. As for the form, I am not sure, but my Athletic Director who tested is retired from the Army said they were fine but there's a good chance some at the end were not the best. Thank you for the information!

There is no disqualifying score on the PFA for the Army ROTC scholarship. Just that the better you do, the better score you will receive. With a mile time of 8:30, you have earned 10 out of a possible 50 pts for the run. You have a total score of 110 out of 150 for the entire PFA. The PFA is worth only 150 pts out of 1400 total points of the scholarship application
