District Nomination

Hello, I am a senior in high school, and my district congressional nominee has lost the primary and for the duration of their term, are deciding not to nominate any candidates for the academies. Of course this is not the absolute end of the world since I still have Vice presidential and Senatorial nominations, but still slims my chances. This leads me to many questions:
  1. Is this allowed?
  2. What are my other options for district Nomination? (Thinking about open slots in other states?)
  3. Can their successor get me a Nomination after they are elected? (Problem is it wouldn't be until 2025, very near to the deadline)
  4. Can the successor even give out nominations for class of 2029s next year?
If anyone has any answers to any of my questions, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Elected officials have always had the option of choosing not to exercise this privilege of the office and not nominate anyone.

I would definitely let your USAFA Admissions contact and ALO know, by email, so it’s a matter of record.

Stay in respectful, professional, appreciative touch with the staffers in the office who handle the SA noms - perhaps call or email once a month, to see if there has been any change, and what they advise. Be known to them as a respectful, quality candidate who is truly committed to a SA path. Their deadline to submit the nomination slate (list of nominees) is the end of January, so there is some time. Things can change. You want to be at or near the top of the stack if it does change and there is a mad rush to get a slate in. And - if the slate is a bit late, the SA is hardly likely to refuse it. They have dealt with these kinds of things for decades.

Good that you have your 2 Senator and the VP noms in work.

Other states, no. USMMA does allow you to apply for noms from Representatives in other Districts in your state. The DoD SAs, no. It’s law.

Paging @Malex who seems to have good insight into MOC staffs.

Thank you very much for the information. I hadn't heard of this situation before, so It was surprising when I first heard of it.

If my son faced this, I would make it an issue in the general election, and try and get both parties to promise to push through a slate in January.

Nobody wants to piss off their constituents in fear of losing.

This. And I would still apply anyway. Chances are the info from last year is still available on the congress person's website.
