DODMERB Deadline?

Hi all, and thanks in advance for your response.

I was curious if the DODMERB process has a specific deadline to be completed by, and if it’s completion is necessary to hear back from the service academies.

My application has been submitted since December 18th, but I haven’t been able to finish the DODMERB process bc of a concussion. Just curious when I have to get it done by, and also if USNA will even look at my application before it’s done.

DoDMERB processes can go into the late spring.

What do you mean by not being able to finish the DoDMERB process? Are you in touch with your DoDMERB case manager so they are up to date and advising you? Did this happen before or after your DoDMERB exam?

Have you gone to the DoDMERB website, read the landing page and every item in the left-side menu? There is a link to the DoDMERB military medical accession standards. Skim to page 48.

Your application can be reviewed, but no decision will be made until there is a definitive Q, DQ or waiver decision. At some point, time runs out for medical. They cannot offer an appointment to someone who is not fully qualified or waivered before I-Day. And, USNA has to nitiate the waiver process. If that is ongoing now, you will get a decision on that at some point.

Sorry to pepper you with questions. It helps to know a bit more so as to get best advice.

Paging @GoCubbies

Sorry for the confusion, I wasn’t able to finish the process because I couldn’t look at any screens or bright lights (concussion protocol). I had already made my account and filled in general info, just hadn’t finished the questionnaire and set up my medical appointment.

Glad to know my application can be reviewed.

I also meant to add I hope you recover quickly. Your health is the most important thing.

Thank you for sharing the additional info.

I strongly recommend you contact your DoDMERB case manager if they don’t know this, by email (to document) and phone call. Ditto Admissions. Worst case is the ball is in your court and they do not know why you have taken no action on your medical exams. If they know and you’re on hold with them until you can continue, just stay in touch.

You may also want to call/email DoDMETS to let them know why you haven’t scheduled yet, if you haven’t done that. They are the govt contractor to DoDMERB; they coordinate with field providers and candidates. DoDMERB is the DoD agency which evaluates medical records to see if they meet/do not meet standards (Q/DQ) decisions. They do not make waiver decisions. USNA has an assigned medical waiver authority they work with.

And welcome new member of a few hours!

Quick update:

I scheduled and completed both of my DODMERB exams (eye and body). They’ve been done since Jan 14th, but on the DODMERB website it says “awaiting receipt of initial medical exam”. Does this mean that the doctors who did the exams haven’t sent in the results yet? Or is this just the standard message you get till they review your file?

I just want to make sure there’s nothing I still have to do on my end that’s holding the process up.

That means DoDMETS is likely still reviewing and QA’ing the exams to ensure completeness before uploading to DoDMERB.

It’s the time in the cycle where thousands of exams are flowing through DoDMETS to DoDMERB.

Got it, and thanks for the quick response btw. I know the timeline can vary case by case, but is there a rough estimate on how long it might take before I get a response back on my status?

During this super busy time for both CivTeam and DoDMERB, it may take a month or so.

Remember, if the examiner or eye doctor did not fill in all the boxes on the forms, then CivTeam has to kick it back to get the missing info before DoDMERB even gets it for review.

My son took his medical 1/3 and eye exam 1/6, we just got the first question today from our case manager inquiring about a scar notated during exam. So it can take several weeks before they even review the results....it would seem.

And to add to this, his application progress page still says "awaiting receipt of initial exam"

Our son completed his exams the first week of December and we just heard yesterday as well. So you beat us by a month. We have everything requested and will upload today, so hopefully faster on the next look.
