DODMERB exam repeated in college?

Once cleared as "qualified" with a waiver prior to entering AFROTC in college (on scholarship), is that medical clearance good for 4 years of college? Or is it repeated before they have field training (which I believe is between soph and junior year undergrad)?
If it is repeated, do they start from scratch, and revisit every issue they have had since childhood, or only medical updates?
Thanks

Others that know more will chime in . . . but I believe the "technical" answer is once you have cleared DoDMERB, you are done with DoDMERB . . but that does not necessarly mean you are done with military medical exams or service medical waiver authority reviews . . . if you get injured. or have a new medical condition or a serious illness develop as a student, your medical condition may need to be re-reviewed. The SA medical team or your ROTC Cadre will be involved with that. Also if you are trying to become a pilot, you will have to pass a "Class 1" medical exam . . . I think there are some other militray career specialties that require a follow-on exam in order to qualify . . . usually these exams take place sometime within or between the second semester of your junior year through reporting to school in the Fall for your senior year.

The DODMERB physical is good for 2yrs from the exam date. If you are contracted within the 2YRs you are good to go. If it expires before you contract, you will have to get a new one.

If you are injured after you are qualified, you may need a medical determination to verify that you are still medically qualified.

DODMERB exam with an approved waiver from Cadet Command expired before son contracted. Now has to get another DOMERB exam. Question is whether all the AMI (additional medical information) that had been provided will be considered and the earlier waiver provided by Cadet Command will be considered in second DODMERB decision. Any thoughts or anyone experience this before?

AF pilots go through a 2-3 day physical once they are selected to be a pilot

DODMERB has all the info, so they shouldn’t ask for the same info again. Most of the redos I see after a DODMERB expires seem to go pretty quick. Had a Cadet complete a DODMERB and get qualified in two weeks recently.

Thank you for this helpful information. Just waiting now for the medical exam to take place.

One more question for Clarksonarmy please: Since DODMERB has all the information -- that would mean they also have a record of the waiver granted by Cadet Command, correct? And since this is for contracting not scholarship now, it would be up to the PMS, not Cadet Command, at the senior service college to request a waiver should that be necessary correct?

Hi. I am not sure if this has been answered but here is my son's current scenario. He completed the DoDMERB physical in 2022 and applied to the AF Academy. He was found to need a waiver for ADD (non medicated). He ultimately did not get in to the Academy and joined an ROTC detachment at college. He informed them he completed the DoDMERB and needed a waiver. They told him basically, no problem, we will get that information. As a freshman, my son didn't think to follow up, and thought he was under waiver review for the entirety of his freshman year until someone realized the info was never requested - so he lost a year still being under waiver review because no one requested the review so it wasn't looked at. We have since gotten a letter from Neuro and his pediatrician that he shows no signs of ADD and sent in. Now, two years later his DoDMERB expired (this past Sunday) and he was told by the TSgt at his detachment he could get a 1-yr extension, then he was told by another Sgt he needed an entirely new physical and not the extension. He asked his DoDMERB case manager and was instructed to request a new physical through his detachment. He did and was given the 1-yr extension form and was told he just had to wait to hear from DoDMERB - which is fine if that's what he has to do, but he is skeptical. Needless to say he is freaking out and feels like nothing will be on time and he will miss field training and be set back a year - as we all know how slow this process can be.
My question is this - is the redo of an expired DoDMERB just a form? Or is it an all new physical process like he completed the first time around? He can't seem to get the right answers and he keeps citing "chain of command" as to why he can't go above people to ask. I just want him to have an opportunity not marred by paperwork errors - and if he ends up with or without a waiver, at least we know everything was done correctly.

DoDMERB will have all the previous info in its files.

Your son will just have to fill out a present health questionnaire to determine if anything has gone on medically from the time of the last DoDMERB exam to the present.

The Cadet Command waiver will not have a direct effect on the 2nd DoDMERB review. In other words, if Cadet Command grants a waiver for a certain condition, then it doesn’t mean DoDMERB will qualify that same condition the 2nd time around. What DoDMERB will do is qualify a previously DQ’ed condition (and waivered by Cadet Command) that has passed the time required for DQ. For example, let’s your son was DQ’ed for ACL surgery less than 12 months and Cadet Command has waivered (might have been 10 months out from surgery and son has gone back to playing football). It’s mostly likely well beyond 12 months by the 2nd DoDMERB exam, so the ACL surgery will be qualified the 2nd time around and no waiver needed. Other conditions such as those with “history of” will be DQ’ed the 2nd time around by DoDMERB even though Cadet Command granted a waiver.
