Does your likeliness of appointment change?

Hello, i’m aware this question is a hard one to answer, and that there is many moving pieces in the process for admissions, but I want to ask: Does your likeliness of appointment decrease if you have still not been offered one closer to April 15th? Are most of the appointments given out a good deal of time before April 15? I have two nominations and am hopeful for an appointment. Like I said, i’m aware this question is hard to answer and does not have a definitive answer, but I just wanted to ask for any information on this sort of question if available. Thank you.

No. The likelihood of an appointment does not *necessarily* increase with the passage of time. It could in certain instances, but not as a general statement, for the masses.

There will be a lot of TWE’s. Be prepared for that. There will also be appointments, perhaps waitlist actions and NAPS/Prep offers.

Focus on what you can control...very little benefit to trying to figure out how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.
Every year at this time, SAF dives into the deep hole of what ifs, how many appointments left, etc. and every year the result is the same -- some get the BFE and some the TWE. The bottom line is you are still in the running until you hear either way.

I think you're asking what many candidates and their parents are thinking. Does making it this far indicate strength of candidacy? Are the April candidates strong and likely to receive of appointment, waitlist or offered NAPS/Foundations? Or are the majority of slots spoken for and mass TWEs ready to be delivered any day? Looks like @JustDoIt2019 is weighing in with the sound voice of experience as I type.

About 12 days of uncertainty and then candidates can adjust sails and go all in on their plan. You got this.

I think @JustDoit2019 is exactly right, but it sounds like the DODMERB complications this year have slowed everything down a little bit.

Could be wrong but we're almost to 4/15 so hang tight.

My DD is monitoring her email and checks the portal 3 to 4 times a week. Says no need to log on without a email notice. Her status is still "Completed - Pending Review". I' m curious as to what the exact text is for TWE on the portal? TIA.

I believe you’re asking if an applicant’s chances go down the closer we get to April 15. This is a valid question, as one (like myself) would think most appointments have already been given out by now and there aren’t that many slots left. However, just a week ago I was told by our congressman’s office that there are still no pending offers on my DS slate. So, in my limited experience, I would venture to say the answer is *not* necessarily “yes”. It’s very possible your application hasn’t even been reviewed, even at this late stage. Hold onto the hope that if you’re still CPR, you’re still very much in the running 👍

Just for reference, and I know USNA could be different. But DS is trying to not check portals incessantly, but I prodded him gently to check his USMA portal yesterday, and after much “mom, they wouldn’t send out appointments on a Sunday” he begrudgingly looked, and an offer of admission was there! No email about a portal update or anything. He got an official email from USMA this morning. So you never know.

DS is still CPR for USNA, by the way. But we’re getting closer to knowing.

Focus on what you can control...
We just had bad weather sweep through (like most of the country) last week and my wife was wondering why I wasn't worried about the high winds or the possibility of a tornado. I said those very words, @Old Navy BGO.

After it blew over and we had no damage, I did NOT say anything about "worrying for nothing". I'm not stupid. :p

Great, thank you very much! Luckily i do have an appointment to USMA so i’m not too stressed out or concerned, but was just curious. Thanks again

Short and simple, but enough to change your entire day. 🤣

Does anyone know if receiving an NROTC 4 year scholarship help in any way receive a USNA appointment or NAPS offer?

It doesn't help directly. But indirectly can have an impact. DS received his NROTC first round so during MOC interviews when asked about his plan B, he could say he intended to be a Naval officer, had applied for and received a 4-year scholarship, and had been accepted to his school of choice which was covering room and board.

It shows a willingness to serve in the service, through a different path. It shows you can navigate different applications and physical exams, as well as an additional difficult interview.

It may have an indirect impact on your interview scores. And it is an accomplishment to be selected to be sure.

The accomplishments that helped get the ROTC scholarship are the same accomplishments that can help secure an SA offer.

The interview thing could go either way depending on if there are other equal or better candidates that got a scholarship too. They could think he is all set with rotc and give appointment to someone else.

For the most part, ROTC decisions will be issued after the MOC interview process. There are, as @Heatherg21 points out, some exceptions to that rule. For the most part, however, while the MOC's interview panel may ask about whether a candidate is pursuing ROTC as a path to commissioning, the issue of whether a scholarship is in hand will be moot.
