DS put on wait list

One word of advice in general (not directed at any specific poster). If your dream is USNA, you didn't get in and you're now accepting another SA, be VERY SURE it's what you want. I've endured more than my share of recriminations from candidates and their parents when the candidate attended another SA (usually USMA)

Then why apply to more than on SA? Doing so either takes a slot from another deserving candidate that would love to attend or drags out the process for another until you decide to decline the appointment. Can't have it both ways.
.
@usna1985 is correct …. If you don't have passion for a SA, and what the job entails upon graduation, then don't apply to that SA.

That's really a different question. There are various reasons that candidates apply to more than one SA. I applied to 2 and changed my preference along the way. There are some folks who would be happy at more than one but maybe happier at one. Stuff happens.

However, if at this point someone is accepted to SA #1 and WL'ed at #2 -- and is still holding out for #2, I've got to question the commitment to #1. That said, I'm sure there are all sorts of individual stories and exceptions.

There is no standard answer to these. 1985 had a great view. Every candidate, their story, goals, dreams, desires are unique to them. Some want to serve in any service and others are one service focused and everything in between. The application process is really a year long. So some will realize after a visit that maybe one isn’t a good fit or one has now been added to their list.

The key is whether you have have the passion. USAFA was my first choice, I had never visited any Service Academy (this was before NASS etc). I got TWE's from both USAFA and USNA , but an offer to NAPS. I went with it, and never looked back.

I agree with your comment. However, it takes my quote out of context. I told someone to accept their appointment to USMA (2nd choice) as the odds of gaining an appointment to USNA this late in the process are low. I replied to a comment that basically said if you don't get your first choice, its likely not a good idea to attend your second.
