(CANDIDATE'S FIRST NAME):
I have a request. If you have decided to attend another school and you know you would decline an offer of admission to West Point, please reply to this email and let me know. This would really help us out, and probably help out the applicants from your local area too. We hope West Point is the right place for you, but if you have decided otherwise, we will wish you the best.
**Most people getting this email are still definitely interested in West Point. If that is you, please reply to this email and let me know that you are still interested. We know you’ve been waiting a long time – thanks for hanging in there!
Do understand that as our deadline approaches, we are absolutely overwhelmed with questions and inquiries. This email serves as your status update and I will not be able to reply with anything further.
CURRENT STATUS: Your current status is that you are Fully Qualified and have at least one nomination, which means you are competing for admission. Out of well over 15,000 candidates for admission, less than 3,000 will make it as far as you have in the application process – well done!
OFFER TIMING: We will begin sending offers of admission in the near future and then continue to send out offers for the next couple of months. Our goal is to send out offers as quickly as possible, however, not all of them will go out at once. Some applications are still unresolved due to medical or other requirements, so we cannot make a determination regarding every slot in the class. As we are able to resolve those individual cases, we will continue to issue offers of admission on a rolling basis. We are also required to fill our class in accordance with congressional law (Title X, United States Code). Following that order can sometimes be a slow process, so you will need to be patient as we go through this process as quickly as we can. In some cases we will not be able to offer some of our best applicants until April.
NON-SELECTION: As we become certain that some candidates will not receive offers of admission, we will send them letters that inform them they are qualified but not selected. *Until they receive that letter, they are still being considered for admission.* There is not a set date that we will send those letters out – our goal is to inform applicants of their status as soon as possible so that they can make appropriate decisions about other college options.
ARMY ROTC SCHOLARSHIPS: If West Point is your first option, and your backup is an Army ROTC scholarship, and you must make a decision because of an ROTC scholarship deadline, I recommend you accept the scholarship. If you are admitted to West Point, you can then decline the scholarship and that school will be able to give the money to someone else. We have confirmed this method with many ROTC professors.
I want to commend you for making it to this point in the process. You have shown hard work, dedication, and a commitment to serving your country. We know it was not easy! You have what it takes to be an officer in the United States Army, and I hope you continue on that path, whether it is through West Point or Army ROTC.
Go Army!
