Will the academy tell us which company we are in prior to I-day or will we find out on I-day?

I'll be interested in hearing the answer to this question. So far my info on this is mixed. We have a '19 grad and my recollection is that it came from him in one of his first letters home. My wife recalls we got it before he left. [Editor's note -- wife is generally correct on anything dealing with kids.] And, I was talking to a detailer (2/C Mid) who was at our "welcome aboard" parents club luncheon who said it would arrive from USNA "a week or two" before I-Day. I guess this is my very long way of saying, "I have no clue."

Typically, you will find out before I-Day. You will get your assignment such as "E Company 9 Platoon 4 Squad".

I think this is mostly for parents, when they're playing where's Waldo/Wilma with the alumni site photos. Your parents will need to know which flag to look for (The big "E" in the above example, referred to as "Echo Company"), when poring over the thousands of Plebe Summer photos.

In the past, this assignment became your temporary Plebe Summer address. If you were named Jane Schmo, your address would be:

MIDN Jane Schmo
E Company 9 Platoon 4 Squad
Annapolis, MD 21412

I know Jane. That’s Mr. Schmo’s daughter.

Smart girl. Valedictorian. Lettered in five sports. One hundred sixty volunteer hours every month. Coached youth softball. Started three clubs at school and was president of them all. Saved a drowning squirrel in a rapid flowing creek. Accepted to all Ivy schools and all service academies.

The Schmos are distantly related to that one famous Navy family, the Finarkles.
And I have it on good authority the Army’s Private Snuffy family (no family member has ever exceeded the rank of Private) is somehow related, according to home DNA test kit results.

The scuttlebutt was anywhere from one week out to on I day (and last text would be address before phones are turned in). Summer address ended up coming 5 days out. Letter companies were omitted last year since companies were not combined. Typically the Platoon number ends up being the AC year Company.
