Fire at USAFA

Watched a fire truck just leave base I think we're in the clear
Correction still on going however not threatening any housing or the hill. We still have class. Normal operations with exception of no visitors (anyone with out a dod card)

Unfortunately we are running out of marshmallows so they had to contain the fire. As of right now it is not spreading, and with over 14,000 gallons of water being dropped, plus the possible rain storm coming tomorrow the lovely fire is coming to an end (hopefully). Amazing what our team (military and the fire department) can do

My daughter is on the Equestrian team and had to frantically evacuate the horses and move them in trailers to a location 20 miles away!
Wildfires, unfortunately, are far too common in CO. The fire was on USAFA property, south of the cadet campus by where enlisted, base housing, and stables are. Moving horses 20 miles away is largely due to logistics and available space for the horses, because right outside of USAFA gates is I-25, and just on the other side of I-25 is suburban Colorado Springs, filled with businesses, and residential homes. There's simply no space for horses in areas like this (nor are they zoned for horses) so they must move further out of town into rural areas to house the horses.
