I know that all cadets have to attend home football games but for away games, are cadets allowed to travel to those? For example, the game in Arlington, TX, and away at Army. Is there a process to apply to attend those games or are only upperclassmen allowed to travel to away games?

Freshmen can’t go before prog (Lesson 20). After that they can go but for the most part would have to pay their own way. Some games have contingents (typically the games we can go to by bus) where the government pays but you are also at the whim of leadership when going officially.

They’d planned on sending more of us to Navy last year but the Afghan withdrawal took all the C-17s. Plan is to have more cadets at the Army game this year and they’re facilitating that by having Supt’s Day (no class) the day before the game so more can travel. I went to both Navy and Army last year on the personal SCA submitted by the athletic department for each away game which means I was allowed to miss class but paid my own way. That allowed me to spend more time with family and not have to attend extra mandatory events other than being in UOD at the game and in the cadet section which I wanted to attend anyway.

What does that mean: "prog" and "lesson 20"? If my DS gets accepted at USAFA, I'm hoping he'll be able to attend an away game that comes to his home state in 2025.
There are 40 periods for class. Each day, m days and T-days are a period. So first day of class is M-1, second day-2 last day of that class is m-40. Prog is midterms. But doesn't mean there's tests just it's the middle of the semester. Just depends on when the away game would be.

My understanding is that there is some type of selection process for SA away games. I am not sure how Cadets are chosen. My DD requested and was selected to attend the Army game in Arlington TX last year. Despite what @Tx2AFA said in his post, USAFA paid for my DD's flight. They found a USAFA host family to stay with in the Dallas area so she didn't have lodging expenses. USAFA definitely picked up the bill for the flight to TX and back. Perhaps they reimbursed her (I don't know) but USAFA ultimately paid for the flight.
