I'll keep this short and sweet but just in case some of y'all didn't know you can contact your admissions representative for your region and review your application one-on-one with them. I recently did this and found it to be extremely useful as they will tell you what you did right and what you can improve next year to give yourself a better shot. One thing that was mentioned, for those of you who are competitive (1400+ sat, high GPA, lots of AP, good CFA, etc.) and got the TWE, focus on your nominations (essays and interview skills) for the next go around as each representative only has one slot so for the competitive districts it becomes quite hard. Good luck to everyone reapplying next year and congrats to those who got appointments.

This is good gouge -- often the Teacher evaluations, essays, and interview are the only way to distinguish Candidates . We have many candidates who have great grades, SAT's, activities, and athletics etc., but it is really important to demonstrate your committment to the service. So many times I have gone to schools to present appointments, and when the prinicipal, guidance counselor, and teachers come up to me and tell me what a great student my Candidate is, or he/she is on the stage to be recognized in a number of areas, and I know we have the right Appointee.

Where do you find your admissions representative? Are they listed in your portal or was it the name at the bottom of my rejection email?

As always, start with USNA.edu.

Give them some time to wrap up this cycle. They are very busy closing out this class-building round. There is a small window of time before the next cycle grinds into high gear before the end of summer.

Just curious when candidates who are reapplying are planning to take the CFA again ? DD is currently waitlisted for USNA but we are being realistic about her chances . Her gym teacher conducted her CFA in December , was wondering if we could ask the teacher to conduct it again in late June or would USNA want to see a CFA conducted when she is in college ?

My DS took the CFA during the summer before he went off to college. Logistically much easier to arrange than wait until! Train and do better than the first one to show improvement. It’s during the cycle so should be fine. Double check with admissions to be sure,

I think that’s what we will do , although tbh, she crushed the CFA in December , she is a three sport varsity athlete . I honestly don’t know how she could even improve with the CFA . The SAT is her Achilles heel and she is already signed up to take it in two weeks, although she is definitely in “senioritis” mind set and not sure if she has been doing the prep she should be doing for it while also preparing for AP exams and finals. .

@Banshee Mom
All the more reason to knock the CFA off early. Put the time into studying now for SAT. DS took the morning after senior prom and crushed it. Don’t underestimate the extra year of math and being in the studying groove. She can control only what she can control. I made a previous post on another thread of my recommendations for the reapplicant. The process will be easier the second time around. Your dd knows the process, medical is good for 2 years, and pieces are alreasy complete. She needs to enjoy her next semester and pay attention to how she has grown and lessons learned which will be the basis of her next essays. Once she figures out her next chapter, she can thoughtfully write the essays since her application wont be complete until semester transcript is released by college in January. The nominations pieces will likely be earlier deadlines but I’d recommend she be in touch with offices to ask about reapplicant process. New essay for nomination sources will be earlier than USNA essays but a good foundation.

Best of luck!!

Thank you for this @max1910. DD scheduled a call based on your post and spoke with her admissions representative yesterday. While there were no huge "aha" moments to come out of it, it was a very positive experience and will help her to make a decision about reapplying. Most importantly from a mom's perspective she heard "Your application was strong. You are absolutely qualified. Unfortunately there was someone on the slate who was more qualified." And that's the conversation we've had since she started this journey. You can do it all right, but so will a lot of other candidates. In a highly competitive area where MOC's don't cross-nominate in an attempt to give more candidates a chance the stakes are even higher. But hearing it from admissions rather than mom made it real ;)

Wishing your DD the best of luck. I was so hoping to see her on the appointment list for '26.
