Is a foreign language required? My son took two years of German. Much like me and French he can understand it but that’s about it. Should he brush up before he goes?

Not required, but recommended 2 years. Probably all good. Someone else who is actually attending could confirm though

If you mean requirement for acceptance no. You can find that information on the usafa page. Foreign languages are recommend.

If you mean at USAFA, cadets are required to take a foreign language. I believe ( but not 100%) that there is the opportunity to test out of taking a foreign language.

Not required, recommended.

All cadets take a language unless they test out of the requirement.

DS will take a language placement test during basic. If he shows proficiency through two semesters of German he will validate and not have to take classes for it during the academic year.

Regardless of testing out or not, keep an open mind. Consider all the minors including a language. My DD took Japanese even though she did place out of both language requirements (french). Check out the other interesting minors - did you know that Diversity and Inclusion is a new minor? Yes! And check out the 4 types of Space Warfare - they sound really interesting! On the PE front, my DD is excited for Pickleball!

"Diversity and Inclusion is a new minor..."

Huh?

I'm going to have to do some research on that one. I hadn't heard of that until I saw it here.

***** Follow up*****

So I am a little more educated. I looked this up and saw what the classes are that will meet the requirements for this minor. Some sound really interesting to me, a few caused my eyes to almost roll, and the others...seem like sound, very topical, and relevant courses.

Thanks for posting this HCopter...I didn't know about this.
