FYI AROTC

What paper? I'm looking at the scholarship contract, and it says 2.0. CC Reg 145-1 (dated September 2011) says 2.0. If you've got something official that says something different I'm all ears.

Seems I remember a lot of folks talking about ROTC study hall if you got below 2.5 (unit specific I would think), but as with others - anything below a 3.0 is not where you want to be if you want to be very competitive within your unit.

Clarkson, perhaps I am misinterpreting this. But from the scholarship papers I received from CC, under the section for 3-year ADs, it states:

If your award notification letter states that you have received a 3-YEAR ADVANCED DESIGNEE SCHOLARSHIP (3 Year AD), the following applies to you:

No benefits will be paid during your freshmen year. You must enroll at the college or university indicated on your award letter during your freshmen year. You must be a full time student and participate in the ROTC Program during your freshmen year. Additionally, to continue to remain eligible for the ROTC scholarship you must:

a. Attain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher at the end of your freshman year and not be on academic probation. Summer classes may be included in GPA.

b. Achieve a 3.0 GPA or higher in Army ROTC.

Or is Part B not referring to MS classes?

The 3.0 is just for the military science classes. You can carry a lower overall GPA for all your courses... not that it's recommended or your planning to. Trust me. If you can't carry a 3.0 in your military science classes you are doing something drastically wrong.

That would be to qualify for your 3AD scholarship. Once you are contracted you need to maintain a 2.0 and a 2.0 in ROTC. Kind of like having to have a 2.5 to qualify for a campus based scholarship, but once you get it you need to maintain a 2.0. Good thing you are reading your offer paperwork carefully.

Yes there is a lab. every Thursday at 3:00. She stated that the first semester class was Tuesday/Thursday around 1:00. then from there the cadets went directly to the lab. Also, it sounded like all labs freshmen-seniors have the lab at 3:00. The length of the lab depends on the classification of the cadet. Senior lab is about 3 hours long.

For extra curricular activities, she said that the ROTC orientation before school starts will explain all of those groups. There are lots of recruiting at that time.

I'm going to LSU as a non-contracted cadet or Possibly through SMP do you know the date of ROTC orientation?

ROTC orientation

AWESOME!!!! Welcome to Tigerland!!!

When asked about orientation, because my DS would like to participate in the E2 engineering camp that is the entire week before classes begin, we were told that the camp would not interfere with ROTC orientation. She said that it would only be about 3 days before. We wish it was longer, but there it is.

What is your major? Staying on campus? Dorm?

Thank you I'm very excited! I'm staying in the traditional dorms, but selection is not until early June for me.

Possible GPA discrepency

A possible explaination for the 3.0 requirement is that is the requirement for TOPS which I assume is the LA version of the Hope scholarship we have here in GA. In GA a student must maintain 3.0 to keep the HOPE Scholarship which pays only for tuition. So us Georgians elect for the room and board from the Army scholarship and get the Hope for tuition. A possible expaination although it sounds like LA processes differently.

Additionally the average GPA at Georgia Tech which is 80% engineering is under 3.0. My suspision is the 3.0 is TOPS and not an Army requirement. But if you want both you need the 3.0

I think what she meant is that to stay in the college of engineering, the student must maintain a 3.0. So in order to keep his scholarship which is for engineering, he must maintain a 3.0. Idk if he is not in engineering if he loses his scholarship. Maybe someone else who has experience in that area can answer that question.

There are three levels for TOPS in LA. The lowest is a 2.5. So that is not an issue for us.
