Our son was just accepted to Georgia Tech! He prefers University of Georgia, though, and got into their Honors College. Our DS was awarded a 4-year Army ROTC scholarship but also applied to NROTC - Marine Option, which he has not been awarded. What ROTC branch at Georgia Tech do you want to know about? The NROTC battalion is one of the first in the country - with President Jimmy Carter and astronaut John (Glenn?) as alumni. (President Carter transferred to the Academy though). There are only a handful of Georgia Tech students that are Marine Option - the rest are cross town students from Kennesaw and Georgia Tech - a lot of former enlisted which adds quality to the program. We have close friends in the Army ROTC battalion at Tech - father is a retired Army Colonel. My guess is the Army ROTC is top notch because it's Georgia Tech. What I learned from this board is to pick your college and don't base the decision so much on the ROTC program? For the most part....I think the ROTC experience will in general be well run and it will mirror the culture/quality of the College's student body. Our retired Army Colonel friend told us to consider the College you want because that's more important. The Army ROTC program ranks cadets and a large portion of their ranking is based on academic grades (in addition to fitness, leadership, service and more). Congratulations! I wanted our son to go to Tech so badly! Maybe one of my younger kids will be a Jacket! Please forgive me, forum members, I have probably not written this as accurately as you veterans could have. I have, however, spent a lot of time at Tech and on our son's ROTC journey.

What I LOVED about Georgia Tech; the ROTC building/fields are near the Academic buildings, the dorms, the dining halls and fraternity houses. Our son is going to be a business major and I was so impressed with how close all the parts of campus are to one another. I am concerned about this aspect of University of Georgia - being such a large place - and our son having to navigate dorm/school/ROTC/intramurals/clubs and even fraternity all spread out physically.

Does anyone have experience with AFROTC @ Georgia Tech? My DS is waiting to hear from USAFA but if he doesn’t get in, he‘ll be attending Emory which has a crosstown agreement with GT. He will also be non scholarship next year. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

my son is NROTC at GT, so i dont know much about the AFROTC program, however i did read on the GT parents page that it was ranked as one of the best AFROTC programs in the nation in december 2019

Both GT and UGAs AFROTC programs are great!
DS is a 4th yr afrotc Cadet at UGA and his high school buddy is at GT.
UGAs Det size is much smaller than GTs which DS really liked.
