Does anyone know how far into your GPA they look when calculating your OML? I want to take a course pass/fail, but I was not sure if whether or not they will look at this and then recalculate your GPA with pass/fail credit counting as Cs. I am assuming they just take your GPA at face value, but I am not sure and I would hate for that to come back and bite me.

You should not be dinged for taking a class pass/fail. In fact that may be a way to mitigate a little risk if it's a hard class. What did your ROTC instructor tell you the answer to this question was?

They never gave me a straight answer. I am currently abroad and all I got in reply was, "why are you taking a course pass/fail". Normally I would never even consider this but it's because I'm taking some intensive language classes. I just don't know any cadets that have gone this route so I wasn't sure if it was alright to do so.

I may be wrong, but doesn't a P/F class just show up as credits received, but not added into your cgpa? In other words, you would get from the school the 3 credits, now let's say you took a total of 15. For your cgpa they would only calculate the 12 credits into the equation, but for your transcript it would show 15.

Thus, it would be a no harm no foul if you think you would get a C, but it could hurt if you could have gotten an A.

I know some Ivies that only do P/F for freshman yr and that is how they have explained it to me.

Yeah I understand how pass/fail works. I just know that sometimes when you graduate on your final transcript, a pass/fail course comes up as being a C or something, even though the GPA is the same. Some people will take this and recalculate the GPA with the Cs and get a new GPA. I was just making sure that they don't happen to do this with your OML but it sounds like they probably don't.

I would suggest if this is your worry that you talk to your college and ask how the P/F courses show on your transcript as this is a school issue.
