I know that a portion of our cadet pay will go towards the haircut but if we come with our head already shaved, do they still charge? Will they still make us go get it 'cut' again? Or will we able to skip the line?

You'll be charged for haircuts throughout the year. You'll get your hair cut often to stay In standards. I wouldn't arrive with my head already "shaved". Might as well well go through the experience with everyone else.

Yes you are charged for the barber every month while you are at the Academy. I would not shave my head before. First, it probably won’t be short enough. Second, it’s all part of the experience. Lastly, it’s a break from Cadre, barbers won’t be screaming at you so you’ll appreciate the relaxation.

Agree with everyone else, just wait. Your other option is to get a mullet/mohawk for the extra attention before they cut it off.

Slightly off topic, but the whole automatic deduction for the barber always rubbed me the wrong way. I developed alopecia when I was young and haven't had any hair since I was 12 or so. The entire time I was at the Academy I had to pay for the barber through the automatic deduct and not once did I sit in their chair. I honestly don't know if I could have told you how to get there when I was a cadet.

Anybody who showed up with a "fish" haircut at A&M basically did pushups in the Barber Shop while the rest of us were getting our haircuts. It truly is part of the experience to "grow it out" leading up to the initial scalping.

One upside to arriving with your hair already shaved.... you won't have that itchy feeling all day until you are able to shower. If this REALLY bothers you, you may consider showing up with your head already shaved. You are already going to be uncomfortable, so just something to consider ahead of time.

My DS had not had a haircut in 3 months. His hair was the longest it had ever been (and probably ever will be) just get the haircut there

I seem to recall a Basic who showed up with very very wild hair.....I believe it was at least 6-7" long and standing on end practically. There were before and after photos but I don't know if anyone kept them (like the one about Box Boy). I also recall that wild hair guy didn't stay at USAFA but I could be wrong.

I did the same thing, grew it way out starting last summer(also helped for hockey season), just to have long hair for I-Day. Unfortunately I didn’t get in direct this year, but it’s a cool what if scenario.

I think that they still charge you for it. I wouldn't recommend showing up with it already buzzed, though. To much attention. As a person that used to have a buzz cut, it draws a lot of people's attention. I grew it out because I got tired of being called caillou.
