Hazing?

They have a cadet who has failed to pass fitness standards and is waiting to eat an ice cream sundae. I agree the words were harsh. The cadre probably even regretted saying it. Teaching discipline while at the same time making sure to never hurt anyone’s tender feelings is a tough business. One cadet would take what was said much different. They all handle things and respond differently. The goal of the cadre and summer program is in a way to “break down” the person and then build them back up. My DS told me a number of stories after the summer where there were things that would make some question the methods. Things that made people feel small and insignificant. Sometimes Cadre make mistakes as well. They have a very difficult job.....telling someone to sit down because they’re too fat to eat ice cream is hardly criminal. Insensitive to the fragile ego of the the recipient for sure.
The point also being he isn't fat, completely in weight limits and only hadn't passed due to pneumonia. If you're going to discipline a subordinate, at least know the right reason.
OMG - the kid is in the military - if his ego is damaged because his cadre had harsh words for him what is he or she going to do when it comes time to board a ship and a drug runner pulls a gun out? The world is a mean, harsh place and people aren't always nice; get used to it. We can choose to be offended by every perceived slight we come across or we can let it slide off our backs and move on. I worry for the future of our country.

Notice I didn't say my son reported it. He dealt with it, moved on, and once he was medically cleared passed his PT test. The hyperbole is trying.

So who is saying he reported it? Was there a post deleted?

No one said anything was misquoted, including myself. An anecdote was related where someone was called fat for not passing their CFA, when the reason they didn't was that they had pneumonia at the time. Folks then went on to sanction that action of being called fat... when (at least IMHO) is was unjustified and certainly an inaccurate depiction of the issue. I would think that if the post was being quoted, the poster would be familiar with it's contents. Just my 2 cents.

The post was read and understood. The point wasn't the accuracy or inaccuracy of the statement, but the level of outrage expressed over words. The fact the words weren't even accurate makes the reaction even more disproportionate. I 'm glad to hear the aspiring soldier didn't make a formal complaint over a cadre called him fat.

Its just like any job, training etc. You have good leaders, ineffective leaders, and just flat out bad ones. Cadre are all of 20-21 years old most with no leadership skills with any HR savy. Sad thing is when the bad ones know it and embrace it while crossing over lines thats when you think... yep that one I will remember. Bet your arse what comes around goes around.

I read it as a PFT, not a CFE. I also don’t read that the cadre mentioned anything about the person not having passed said PFT. I do read that there was an issue with said cadet being called fat.
