Help with OML

Hi all,

it's been a long time since I've posted here. Since then, I've finally gotten contracted in AROTC after a year of waiting and many hurdles to jump through.

However, I'm very worried about my performance as an MS3. I'm not ranked very high by my peers, I dont know how my PMS ranks me, but apparently the best thing going for me is my GPA (3.7). And my highest APFT score is only a 240 because of time commitment issues with school and stupid injuries that held me back. However, with a lot of family-related issues/tragedies (with hurricane harvey in the south) and a lot of other things going on in life, my GPA is less than decent this semester (maybe no more than 2.7).

I know this will bring my GPA down quite a bit, so what other ways can I increase OML this coming semester? I know that my most recent spring APFT can help, and I have several months to work on it. I can always keep my GPA up this semester by prioritizing time better, and I can work on tactical knowledge to get ready for LDAC soon.

The main reason I want a high OML is not so much for the merit or pride, but so that I can have a vast array of options and not limit myself if I wanted to compete for some of the more competitive branches and components (AD).

Thanks all!

The obvious things would be to start your next semester strong and get a good GPA next semester. Get your APFT up as high as you can since it will now be graded at Camp. Keep involved in the battalion. Correct what ever is giving you a low ranking among your peers. Be prepared and do well at Camp this summer.

There is no secret solution to getting your position on the OML higher, it’s simply working hard.

Did you apply for CULP or an Army internship? Volunteered for CTLT?

I havent been able to do any of that until recently because to my knowledge, you can only do those things when you're contracted. But YES -- I have definitely been looking to do AROTC extracurriculars like that over the summer, in addition to LDAC -- including Airborne school, Air assault, CULP, etc.
P.S. What exactly is CTLT by the way? Is it too late to volunteer/talk to my PMS? I have a pretty good relationship with cadre, so there's a plus.

Thanks! So you're saying that IF I end up really, really wanting to branch AD and branch a highly competitive branch like infantry, I wouldn't be out of the water, and it wouldn't be hopeless for me?
