No. No they don't. He does have access to truly dangerous communications equipment though! :D
USMCGrunt might have some vicarious familiarity with them though.

I don't know that I'd call arty "a more controlled option than an airstrike," but that's just me.

DS is a Marine Artillery Officer serving in the fleet after attending school at Fort Sill, OK.

He constantly reminds his old man that artillery is the "King of Battle." I yawn and remind him his mission is to support the Infantry. ;)

Then, of course, there is this...

When my DS had his PMS interview he threw out he comment "There are only two branches, The Infantry and those who support The Infantry" at which point an Infantry Officer walked over, shook his hand and left without comment....

A Firebase within covering distance might be the ground pounders best friend. FACS were good but only if the support aircraft was orbiting nearby. They sometimes take awhile.

Hey Bull! Long time no hear! I moved from Central NC to the coast last summer... about 30 miles south of Camp Lejuene. I frequently hear "the sound of freedom" in the evening and at night, as your compatriots in the Corps do their thing. Oh yeah, then there's the helos and Ospreys overhead during they day, but I thought you'd be interested in the former... just for kicks.

Can't argue if you can get a mission. Otherwise, you've got to count on Weapons Company and the mortars.

We used to stay at Emerald Isle every summer. "Sound of freedom" was always good to hear. Used to drive through the base on the State Highway with caution signs "Tank Crossing" and LZ ahead.

I spent 5 teenage summers on Bogue Sound.

Sail over to Salter Path with a short walk to the ocean. All day sail to Emerald Isle. Motor to Shackleford Banks. Watching them run the day's catch through a bandsaw at Ottis' before having soft shell crab at Tony's Sanitary.

When we took the kids to the beach we returned to Emerald Isle.

There is no place better place...

ALTHOUGH, DS's next duty station is Eglin AFB, Destin, FL. A close second.

One comment "the best years of our lives". My wife and I spent about twenty good summers there. All nine cousins spent many years at Emerald Isle. Old days at the J Ville movie theater and fishing out of Swansboro.

Love Sunset. We go there every Memorial Day weekend for my wife's family reunion.

Yea, I'll be off and on for another few months.

I love them all...Artillery and air alike. I spent the first 1.5 years out of BOLC in an infantry unit so I take any support I could get.
