Hopeful USMA Class of 2028 : a place to play the waiting game together.

Wow! What an exciting path he has taken to get to this point. Congratulations on the LOA!! I can't wait to hear when when he is appointed, keep us updated please :)
Thank you and yes, I hope to be able to say he earned an appointment. He was home on leave in Nov/Dec and we went to a local viewing of the Army/Navy game (at the Jacksonville Jaguars stadium) and met a handful USMA grads. I think that got him pretty pumped up. He was also up at USMA in Nov. for a football game when they honored the soldiers of the 25th ID (hint hint on where he's currently stationed) and that is when he received his LOA.

A full-blown grammar war in here! :biglaugh:

Awe congratulations to you as well! I know the feeling, this is my 1st of four kids leaving the nest.
DD is 3Q with nom from Senator and Representative. She only scored a 30 on her ACT and I've been reading these forums so much that I'm worried her score is too low. Need some truth. What are the chances of an appointment?
She should be fine. 30 is not bad.

What are your or your kids B,C,D.....plans if they aren't appointed this year?

My DS has been accepted into Norwich University engineering, University of Illinois engineering, and Cedarville University, with a few more that he's waiting to hear from. He has a presidential scholarship at Norwich and should be able to get a tuition waiver from UIUC for being in-state and participating in ROTC. It will be a tough decision between those two schools. He is waiting on the 2nd AROTC board to see if he can snag a scholarship. Adding in that scholarship should make his top two school choices free. Either way, his plans will be to reapply to USMA if he doesn't get in this year.

Congrats to your DS! UIUC is one of the top engineering programs in the country… if free, that would be my pick 🤷‍♂️

If DD is not appointed this year (and maybe even if she is) Cornell Engineering will be her next stop. Will do college programmer route if she’s not yet able to get medical waiver.

UIUC does have a fantastic engineering program and a great ROTC unit. Plus, he would only be 3 hours from home instead of 15. I like that part the best. Lol! He talked us in to letting him apply to UIUC, our plan was for him to attend the Christian University (Cedarville) that his brother attends. We let him, not thinking that he would be accepted to UIUC engineering. Well, haha that wasn't the case. If he chooses UIUC we will fully support that decision. His heart is at USMA though, so I hope all of his b,c,d plans aren't needed.

Congrats on Cornell! Amazing school and it sounds like your daughter is pretty amazing too!

UIUC has an insane engineering program, I preferred Marquette because its smaller and closer to home(1 hour by train), great ROTC program and a good plan B, still hoping for USMA

Marquette is awesome! Do you plan to reapply to USMA if you don't get in? I hope Illinois represents and you both get in this year!!

It's a 3 hour train trip to UIUC from home, but it's still nice to have an Amtrak route pretty close.

Yeah I’m definitely going to reapply, Marquette’s ROTC battalion is great but West point’s the dream

Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets is DS' favorite after the academies. Will do ROTC anywhere for sure. The military part is more important to him than the college. He wants to engineer military equipment. Other colleges on his list are Vanderbilt, Auburn, Univ of FL & FL State. He has 2 full scholarships for FL schools already, but of course doesn't want those. 🙄

Totally get it! I’m not sure if DD is trying to emotionally hedge because of the uncertainty of medical… she loves both USMA and USAFA, for very different reasons.

In terms of DD being amazing, fortunately she takes after her mom. I’m sure the same is true of your DS!

Any calls from MOCS yet this week? I have seen a few on the forums. Really hoping DS gets a call or an appointment pops up in his portal Thursday night. I will hope for the same thing the next week and the next week if it doesn't happen. Haha!

We just paid housing deposit at LA Tech. DS is also hoping Embry Riddle or Liberty is an option with AFROTC hssp (waiting for second board!). Global Conflict studies at ERAU or Strategic Intelligence at Liberty. But these are not technical programs the AFROTC scholarships favor, so we're steering DS toward LA Tech - Mech Engineering. It's a solid program with an AFROTC detachment, they accept transfer credits, and DS would graduate with no debt.

BTW, we have friends who visited Cedarville yesterday! They loved it!

Great backup plans! The graduating with no debt is at the the top of our DS's list too.

Our oldest is graduating from Cedarville this May. It has been a fantastic school for him, very thankful!
