How did you find out?

Hi All,

Quick question how did you find out about your appointment, did you get an email saying your portal updated first, or did your portal update and you did not get an email? I check my portal nearly every day with fingers crossed and just want to be able to ease my mind.

DS received an email....portal was updated. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe a change in the portal generates an email.
 
If I'm not mistaken, the portals tend to update at around 5 AM EST with an email following soon there after. You'll receive an email from admissions whenever a new document is added to your inbox.
 
Son was called to the school office and the Congressman's office was on the line. Portal updated the next day.

DD received an email stating her portal had been updated. Good luck.
 
I would say you most likely will get an email early in the morning. Second most likely notification is a call from your MOC. Anything beyond that would be unusual.
 
My son was stationed at Eglin AFB and had been working nights. He got a call from the Commanding Officers secretary to be across base at the auditorium in fifteen minute at 1:00 when he was sound asleep. No questions as to why He bolted, threw on uniform , raced across base and walked into auditorium a couple of minutes late. He took a seat at the back still not knowing what was going on as awards were being handed out. At very end he was called up on stage where his commanding officer pointed out his tardiness. He then handed him his personal cell phone and asked him to read the message on the screen in his most commanding voice. It was a text stating that my son had been accepted into the AF prep school. He was choking up as he finished the text and the whole auditorium gave him a standing ovation. My son who made Cs mostly in high school, lost his scholarship in his one year in college, then enlisted in the Air Force had finally discovered himself and what he wanted to do with his life. This prep year has been amazing and now he waits again hopefully for that same message except now he is near the top of his prep class and so ready for that next step. Aim High

My DS received the email...and portal was updated. Later on I found out that his nominating MOC knew of the appointment some 3 days earlier.
 
We found out first with an early morning email that DS's portal had been updated (thanks to him for including my email address in the notifications!). DS was in the shower getting ready for school when I saw the email. When he got out of the shower I 'advised' him that he better check the portal before leaving for school. After a several minutes of waiting for him to come upstairs to tell us about the update his mom received a congratulatory text message from a parent of one of his friends, at which time he was told to "get up here and tell us what's going on". As soon as we saw the look on his face we knew that he had received an appointment. Everyone was late for work and school that morning as we had to take some time to celebrate. The kicker was that he had texted the news to his group of friends before telling his mom and dad!

Later that morning we started receiving phone calls from MOC's.
 
Each can be different. My son found out from his portal. We then in turn contacted his ALO and MOC's to let them know. (Neither had heard anything). And then a few days later, he received the BFE in the mail. So, you never know how you'll find out.
