How long for Waiver Review by USMMA?

Hello everyone! Today I have been just placed under the status of "Waiver Review" by DoDMERB, and I applied to only the USMMA. My question is, how long does it usually take for you to get a response? And is the waiver process done from someone at the Academy or Navy? I'm sure that I am not the only person to be placed under review, has anyone else been through the same thing and eventually been admitted into the USMMA?

Waivers are NOT determined by the academy per my DS's admissions officer from last year. And there is no standard length of time they take. My DS waited months for a waiver but eventually got one and is now at the academy. Buckle up for a potentially long wait. That way if it comes sooner you'll be pleasantly surprised, but if you have to wait, so be it. Unfortunately, in our experience, the DoDMERB waiver was the most frustrating part. Hopefully it's not so bad for you.

No way to tell timing. Both my DS and my DD needed waivers. DD took about two weeks, but DS took six weeks because of required additional medical exams on the waiver issue. I know of cases that were decided in a couple days, but I also know of cases that took months. I agree with Hopeful KP Dad and would plan on months. What you can do is to provide all the records and/or additional medical information requested as soon as possible. Good luck.

My understanding is that if KP Admissions views an applicant as competitive, they will initiate the review process.

Something that no one else has mentioned is that it really also depends on what the waiver request is for. My DS had an initial DODMERB rejection for braces. The orthodontist put removal date too close to indoc. So we were able to resolve it pretty quick so it didn’t need to go to waiver process and he got his appointment. It may be good idea to educate yourselves on the condition in DODMERB site and collect relevant records that may be needed so your ready when requested.

I would not expect to see any action on the DODMERB side of the process. USMMA portal will likely change first. DD was a Dec “under waiver review” for DoDMERB then Feb LOA from KP. After the LOA the waiver was requested and approved in about 2-3 weeks prior to the phone call from the MOC which is how her state worked. No actions on DDs part was required to request or process the waiver - it was all internal to KP and DoDMERB. The only thing we did was preemptively get testing done (at our cost) that we knew would be required to get the waiver.

My DS’s application still says incomplete next to DoDMerb checklist but it was completed in Sept and says under waiver review on his DoDMerb acct. (He had a single dq for history of ADD when he was younger- never needed an IEP or had any accommodations at all- so he is hopeful🤞🏼). He has not received anything from KP requesting AMI. He did get an LOA 2 weeks ago conditional on medical and nomination. Just want to be able to start gathering anything they need. Any suggestions?

My DS is in the same boat, received LOA yesterday, nomination today, DODMERB hasn’t changed since 10/3.

My DS completed has been under waiver review for USMMA since early October with no AMI requested (however USNA requested AMI at the same time he went into that status). He has since received a LOA and nomination for USMMA. Should we be concerned that no AMI have been requested or could the USNA AMI be used for USMMA? I thought I read Navy makes call for USMMA medical waivers. Given nomination and LOA, I would think they would request a waiver with AMI (given the DQ reasons).
