How to decide which Army ROTC Board

Hi, so I’m almost finished with my application for the Army ROTC. All I have left is the Interview and essays. The only problem is that I’m taking the SAT on Oct 6th. I’m currently at a 1280 superscored, but I’m planning to get over a 1300 on this one. Is it more important to get all my stuff ready for the first board or should I put it off until the second board when I get by new SAT scores. Also if I don’t get selected during the first board, is it possible to get selected during one of the other two boards?

If you don't get selected by a board, you are automatically considered for the next board.

I'm not sure that once your application is scored that it will be scored again if there are changes. The ROO at one of the colleges youlisted would know and can provide valuable input.

Or search the internet for 'Golden Knight Battalion' which will hopefully take you to @clarksonarmy blod which i bet hold the answers. Lots of info there.

Thanks for the plug Kinnem...OP, your SAT scores are fine. things to remember about first board vs second board...your file will only be given one score on your interview and by the board. If they see a 1280 score you will get as many points as you can get for SAT score on the interview, and I’m betting the board will be impressed. If you subsequently get a better SAT score the board will not relook at your file, you will not be interviewed again, but you will get a couple extra points for the higher score. My advice is go for the first board if possible.
Hope that makes sense.

I was told by 2 PMS instructors to go for the FIRST BOARD, you will always get the extra points if you do better in the SAT’s/ACT scores!

If it makes you feel more comfortable I got a 1230 SAT score and received a 3 year ad to my top 3 choices. Of course there are many other important factors.

Everybody worries about the process. It's always, 'Am I good enough?'. Often comes up in life. Just go in confident that you've done your best.

FYI - my son - at a recent Marine Corp board selection processing day - was told that - for those applying for the early board and not selected - consideration for the second board was not 100% automatic. In particular, they indicated that the candidate would need to retake the physical fitness test (something about a 60 day expatriation period on those tests).

That may be true for the Navy - Marine option. The Army process works differently, the board itself does not review it again either however, after the first and second board for Army, the applicants name remains on the OML (Order of Merit List),after each of the 3 boards, scholarships are awarded based on the number f scholarships being given and where an applicant is on that list.

I agree with ClarksonArmy(good thing because he knows a WHOLE lot more than I do about this), go for the first board. The only reason not to would be if an applicants SAT/ACT scores would not get them full pints on their PMS interview, you only get to do that one time. For example in Fall of 2015 my daughter had a 22 ACT, and a 24 is needed to get full points on the interview. A ROO on one of her visits in September of her senior year told her to retake it and go for second board. He did state however if she had a 24 or greater he would say go for the first board and then still retake it. Having full points on your interview is a bigger deal than the few points different from say a 1280 to a 1300 something. So that is why everyone is telling you to go for it!

If that's true it's something new. DS had the option to retake or submit any new info, but it was not required. I don't think he retook the PFT.

My DS receive a 1330 on his SAT's (but as previously stated it's not just SAT scores that they are looking for) and received a 4 year Army scholarship and unfortunately didn't finish his fitness test with his physical education teacher at HS until right before the deadline for the 3rd board. He was pretty hopeful he was receiving a nomination to USMA and was procrastinating with ROTC stuff. Needless to say he is a freshman ROTC student at a civilian college (did not receive a nomination) and is reapplying to USMA for the class of 2023

Always ... Always go for the first opportunity ... Too many too cute by half trying to game the system ... Go for it ... Do your best ... Live with the result ... Move on.

It is certainly possible my son misunderstood. I hope you are correct, because it struck me as annoying that he might have to retake it.

If no one else has mentioned it so far, assuming that is your real name, I would suggest changing your name on this forum. This is an anonymous forum to protect you. You can send a message to a forum moderator requesting this I believe.
