I-day drop off

I plan on having my brother drop me off outside the yard about 20 minutes before my report time on I-day. However, I can't find the specific place where he should drop me off. Does anyone know the best/correct place where I should get dropped off on I-day? Should it be at the visitor center?

Give yourself 30 minutes to be on the safe side. Can be a hike from whatever gate it is to Alumni Hall. Some will say you can be late. I say punctuality is a great way to start your military career. Best wishes!

I agree with @MidCakePa. Be early or on time. If the pickup point is Navy-Marine Corps stadium, then 20 minutes may not be enough. If he can drive you onto the Yard or walk to Alumni Hall, then 20 to 30 minutes should be Ok.

Although I think Annapolis will be a lot less crowded than normal fro I Day, Annapolis streets are tiny and crowded any days give yourself plenty of time.

While I certainly agree with the idea of being early, at a minimum it alleviates unnecessary stress -- I'm willing to bet a nervous young P2B will be able to get from Gate 1 or Gate 3 in less than 10 minutes ! In a year, he/she will likely know to the minute how much time it takes to walk from about any point in town to their Company area ! (We got pretty good at getting back from Company tailgator's to Plebe formation after football games with seconds to spare)

I know this has been repeated in the military forever, but this is not necessarily true. It was beat into us during Nav training that it was imporant to be "on target, on time." In a lot of situations, being early can be dangerous (coordinated airstrikes, etc). In others, it can be annoying (for example, office visitors (including BGO interviews) coming early causes me to drop what I am doing so I don't leave people sitting in the waiting room. Be ontime, maybe a few minutes early, but being too early can be as bad as being late.

Whoa. Don't read too much into my little saying. :) It means give yourself a little time cushion for unexpected issues, and to reduce the stress of being late. We're not talking about coordinated airstrikes here. :rolleyes: Besides, as for your interview example, if all goes well and you're really early just cool your heels in the parking lot or lobby or another place out of the way or out of sight, and then waltz in five minutes early (which is on-time by my SOP). Nobody needs to know you arrived even earlier.

The USNA site related to shifting plebe summer has an FAQ entry saying they are working on a drop and go procedure at Alumni Hall.
It isnt in the info booklet, however.

DD just received her updated Report Orders for NAPSters reporting to USNA:

Time: Sunday June 28 2020 no later than 4pm
Place: Mitscher Hall (between King and practice fields)

Less than 5 minute walk from Gate 1.

My daughter's newest PTR specifies Alumni Hall as the drop-off and parents can drive there but then must promptly leave.

In-Processing for Priors/NAPSters/Foundation is different than direct from HS/College Reapplicant. The Paperwork and everything else is less for them.

They show up on the Sunday before hand in Dress Uniform — Service Dress Blues for our daughter.

Since it is different, I suppose Mitscher Hall worked better than Alumni Hall.

I’ve watched videos and read lots but thought Id throw this question out there. What should my daughter wear for drop off? We are walking her in and I know Annapolis in July is hot. No skirts or dresses but are athletic shorts and a Navy Tshirt with her broken in running shoes acceptable? Or should we go with something more “professional”? Or am I overthinking this like usually do?🙄

I'd recommend khaki shorts and some sort of polo. Running shoes are a great idea, the navy shirt isn't.
 
Two years ago, DD showed up in running shorts, T-shirt and running shoes. Also a backpack holding her paperwork, wallet, phone, charger and notebook. She was comfortable during the otherwise hot, humid and stressful day. She also looked just like most of the other plebes-to-be. Dress casually, comfortably and conservatively. And within a couple hours, it won’t matter because you’ll be in stiff, new white works and blue-rimmed cover.
 
Agree with what others have said. Have worked a lot of I Days over the years (its a blast). Shorts, t shirt (tucked in) and running shoes. Khaki shorts or athletic shorts and a t shirt or polo are fine.
 
No “I’ve been there/done that” t-shirts, whether high school, Scouts, Navy or Marine stuff (or other SA😱), sports championship, HS quiz team, space camp counselor, spring break/school trip, summiting Everest, whatever. Think boring, bland, blended in. Nothing for any detailer to comment on. Just one of the crowd. Plenty of time (4 years!) to stand out later on.
 
For women reporting in with hair that will require being pinned up, depending on the uniform, Bunhead Bun Pins, extra long, by Capezio. Amazon and dance wear stores.

There are plenty of Hair Threads, just search.
