I read that hockey at USNA is ACHA and a non recruited sport. DS (travel MM CSDHL goalie) was accepted to NASS-would this be a good time to try to meet with the coach? Or would that be presumptuousness and jumping the gun-and he should wait to see if he gets accepted there?

Not that I know anything, but if hockey is important to him and he would like to play I would say yes. He should use this opportunity to find out as much as possible about the Academy and Academy life, including the hockey team. JMPO.

If you intend to meet the coach (not a bad idea), I would plan on doing it before/after NASS due to the tight scheduling.

I believe there are some NASS Squad Leaders (or potential ones) on here who might be able to provide some insight if there is room in the NASS schedule -- I am guessing not.

When my Firstie went to NASS, their arrival time window didn't start until around noon. She said a lot of the first afternoon was spent playing Frisbee and other games, since people didn't all arrive at once. Not sure if that has changed. If the coach is available, it's likely that you could arrange to meet either on that morning, or on the afternoon that NASS ends.

Suggest you go to <www.navysports.com> to get the hockey contact info and try to set up a meeting PRIOR to going to NASS. Could save you from discovering that the coach is on vacation. Just saying...

Vista123,

Being a sports guy. You should definitely reach out, the sooner, the better. A lot of college hockey teams start training camps/practice shortly after returning for fall term. I know at Penn State, which ended playing in the ACHA started the week after labor day. And as busy as your DS will be. He needs to jump on this. Any additional help, I can be let me know.

Congratulations,

Good luck, God Bless and God Speed to your DS and his family,

RGK

thanks for the replies,

He did show me a page on navyhockey.com that he will fill out and email the coach before hand.

I just didn't know the protocol. This is not listed on Navysports.com so I think it is considered a club sport. Therefore, we were unsure if it is against a particular code of behavior as he has not been accepted to the school-just NASS-and this is not a NCAA sport at USNA.

Can you let us know if and when you have that meeting how it went? My DS is also a hockey player looking into the USNA.
