First things first, so I don't offend the Bacon Overlord:Hi ProudDad17. My DS is starting U of Michigan NROTC in this August. He turned down USNA appointment, but has started to have some anxiety the last few weeks. Would be great if he could talk to current or recently graduated UofM Midshipmen. I’d PM you but can’t since I haven’t made five posts yet. Regards, “Poseidon63” - USNA 1985 / Originally from California

Congrats to your DS! He has made a wise choice (purely my opinion). As @VelveteenR said, there is no greater college city anywhere. Football at the Big House, Frita Batidos, Slurping Turtle, the beautiful campus and a top notch education. I think some anxiety is to be expected right now; especially turning down a USNA appointment to follow this path, the questions of whether he made the right choice are natural. From you signature I infer that you are a USNA alum, so that probably adds to his stress. Good for him for following his own path. NROTC at U Mich will give him an excellent education and quality preparation to serve as a naval officer.
If there are any questions you or he have, feel free to post them in the ROTC or Off Topic forums in a new thread until you can PM. DS is 2/3 of a world away right now, but I can pass them on to him or maybe put them in contact with each other via email or other means.
