Induction Day Motivation!

Those seats are very far back. Last one that I attended in 2007, I had a seat on the curved ramp to the right of the main doors.
In videos I have seen, I also noticed, no parents up on the curved areas during the March in. I wonder if parents were kept back behind those stanchions. I also saw parents sitting in those far back chairs in videos. Looks like a little different set up this year. Understandable

I day is over. Nothing to compare as this was our first. It was super hot. The EMS squad was on the Yard many times today. Although the Supe talk in Mahan Hall provided a nice respite. Also Dahlgren was wide open and we spent a good amount time In the AC. My DS was the last to report in his company and had not even unpacked his bags, met his roommates nor made his rack before the Oath. But he was in good spirits and ready for the adventure to get under way. Thanks for the advice in the last few months.

Funny. On I-day 2015 I was standing next to a brand new 2nd. Lt. as the Plebes were doing the final march into Bancroft. I asked him when the misery begins. He smiled and said "When those 2 big doors shut."
This is how it was for “my generation” (though perhaps it’s too early for me to start saying that). Training could not start at all until after the Oath of Office. Now, as soon as the plebes reported to Alumni Hall detailers were there putting on the pressure. First thing when they get in is stand on yellow tape on the deck teaching them how to stand at attention. Detailers were located throughout the Alumni Hall stations making sure it was not a relaxed environment, which is a change. Setting the tone from the very beginning. Guess that’s what happens when the new OIC and Dant are both Colonels.

I have a fresh audio clip direct from the Hall, but I am stumped as to how to post it here via iPhone. Perhaps the file type is not allowed.

Let me just say cacophony, high volume, Sir! Ma’am!, general bedlam.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, that's OK, I remember! Thanks tho!

I don’t recall seats going this far back before. It all looks like plebe seating. Is anyone there? Curious. Doesn’t look like social distancing thing, either. Idk 🤷‍♀️

those seats are for parents - I was there today!!! it was so freaking hot - we saw 5 detailers pass out!!!! they got dragged off by the medical corp - it was really hot!!!!!

Just checked Flickr, and in a couple of the photos the plebes have their white works blouses off. Back in the day, we only had those off on black flag days. But there are plenty of other reasons that could be happening, and my experience is now 32 years ago, holy wow...
yes today was black flag day!!!

parents were in all the white chairs behind the plebes, plus the bleachers - we got there around 9:30 am this morning and saved seats on the front row - it was amazing!!!! the white chairs on the curved ramps were all for VIP's. the yard was pretty open I thought - no one wearing masks at all - the mid store was packed!!! the Sup said the yard is opening to the public as of this Friday.

Back then, USNA gave seats to the small number of alumni parents as well as a few others.

This plebe summer will be unlike any other in the last 5-10 years. LtCol is changing quite a bit.
This is what my mid is hearing. Different vibe for sure. Granted he isn’t a plebe or experiencing it first hand as a plebe or Detailer but he is excited about the structure. It was a unique vantage point for he and others on the Yard for classes today. Especially considering they are 2024 and no guests at their oath. Congrats to the 2025 candidates now plebes. And great job to the Detailers.

My '23 Mid's march in (The REAL last Plebe Summer!) was a bit dissapointing to me at the end. So many parents following and marching along with the Plebes all the way to the bronze doors, like it was a Disney parade. It always seemed undignified to me. I liked the setup this year. I hope they continue with it.

I noticed today during the live stream some were encroaching and it made me uncomfortable. Pretty quickly a correction was made either through common sense or some pressure I couldn’t see being exerted. I love my kid but those stairs don’t belong to parents IMHO.

The piece I wondered about was the March in, specifically. The chairs and ramps were cleared for that. And parents were allowed up on the ramps, on the side, to observe the last moments before plebes marched in, and door slammed. My DH was up there for ours, and got great video!!

This year, I didn’t see anyone on the ramps at March in, after the Oath. So wondered about if parents/spectators were intentionally kept off of them this year, or they just didn’t go up there. No biggie, was just an observance.

Exactly what I noticed. For sure I think it’s better! As if I matter 😂 but totally agree. I don’t recall them being followed like that, they kept an allowed and reverent distance, I remember ‘23 parents weren’t contained 🥴. A bit chaotic.

For ‘22 there was parent seating, like this, but it didn't go beyond the walls/bleachers. I’m sure they were appreciated! I’m sure it’s with intention. Either a function of the weather, or something else. Also keeps those who stand, out of that area.

Unfortunately the live video wouldn’t go for me after a bit. Watched afterwards. For sure a feeling of ‘righting the ship’ abounds! Good luck to ‘25…New Day, New Dant, The Future 🍻!!

I believe there was some "instructing " going on during the day - how to salute, how to stand at attention, etc. We had no idea that SHTF and got real as soon as we went back into the Hall. I don't recall forming up and marching back into the 'Hall after Induction --we were all kinda left on our own and told to be back in the Company area (which was 3-4). Nobody told us about First Class ladders or other traps, and we didn't have the internet to tell us what to expect. I was a NAPSTER, so I had some clue --but we all experienced a bit of "shock and awe" in the first hour of Plebe Summer.

We did march into the doors at the end of Parents Weekend -- to the tunes of "I'm dreaming of a White Christmas," as Christmas was when most of us would see family again. I had introduced one of my Detailers to my Family, he was from my hometown, and was actually a really good guy --but my Dad loved to tell the story how Detailer kind of pulled him aside and told him we would be forgetting all about the joys of Parents Weekend in a few hours. (And we did !)

New photos have been added to this USNA Flickr link, to include Oath ceremony and family farewells.

Old Grad DH: “looks like The Parade of BCGs (birth control glasses) into T-Court.”

They are getting Boxing headgear issued to them?
That's not fair, one of the "best" part of USNA boxing was putting on sweaty and smelly headgear that had just come off of the preceding class.

And a reminder to all. . . "Fidelity is Up and Obedience is Down" (ask your mids)

DH recited the “salt thing” while paging through the photos. Burned into the oldest parts of the brain, I think.
