initial evaluation

Class rank is about 9/75 but the updated one will come out when I return to school. My super-scored sat scores are 1760. My acts score is a 24.

I ain't know expert but ask your regional commander. See I had to send my transcript which helped because use had nearly all A's and I had to send a resume of everything I've done and won, which in my case I had a lot. By the way, my regional commander requested these items. I am from northeast if that helps.

And if your file is closed then you can still try and reapply again?

Your noncommittal might tell you what you need to do reopen file. A competitive SAT scores is around 1800, it could be less if the class ranking is high. So a candidate with say 1700 SAT will be evaluate as at risk and not allowed to go on top the next phase of the application. However, if you take SAT/ACT September/October and bring the scores up, the admissions office will more than likely reopen the application file. A key is not to give up as, if the application is open up in October, there is less time to complete the application. Or some kids give up and don't apply for the nomination, so reopening of the application become irrelevent.

A candidate evaluaton is 60% academic, 30% leadership, and 10% physical. For initial evaluation, the admissions office looks at the academics mostly. Most cases, no CFA for physical evaluation. Don't need to evaluate leadership in detail as if a candidate is weak on academics, strong 30% is not going to make the difference.
So each NONCOMMITTAL letter says something different? Mine said that a complete candidate application is available and I have 60 days to complete it or else my file is closed.

Maybe because at the end of mine, it is signed by the northeast technician and it doesn't say anything about file closing after 60 days. What region are you from?

I think MemberLG is referring to a Non-Competitive letter - which basically tells you that your file is being closed. However, if your file becomes stronger (mainly through raised test scores), then it may be reopened.

A Non-Committal letter is for letting a candidate know that they are competitive, to continue strengthening their file, and to apply for all noms qualified for.

My portal still has not changed. I have emailed West Point to notify them. Should I be worried?

I don't known for sure but my regional commander said if your file passes the initial evaluation, it should be open between August 1 and August 15

Is there anything obviously lacking from your profile, Keirad? Specifically ACT/SAT scores or GPA?

I just heard back...I need to improve my critical reading scores. So if I do improve, can I automatically keep moving forward in the application process or do they review my profile again? And if I don't improve, then am I done? What is the latest date I can take the SAT/ACT?

Also until then, what else should I be doing besides studying for the exams? Continue to seek nominations and train for the CFA?

No, you should not bother to pursue a nomination until you've improved your SAT scores.

OK, that was tongue in cheek, but are you kidding me? Whenever possible in life you should do as many things in parallel as possible, whether it be an application to an academy, applications to other colleges, or just cooking dinner. It's just common sense. So yes, work on getting your needed nomination(s) and prep for the CFA. You need to have it all in place to be extended an offer. The admissions web site should have the last acceptable dates for the SAT and ACT tests. Google it.

Good luck in pursuing your dream.
